A bit scary but good

Let me begin my review with a frank statement. I am sick of people calling Ghostbusters 'the funniest comedy of all time'. Why? Because I never once saw Ghostbusters as a comedy. As a young kid, as a teenager, and as an adult I always saw this film as 'a supernatural thriller with humor'.It's not shot, edited, performed, scored, or designed as a comedy. No way! Aykroyd's genuine interest in the paranormal is where the idea for the movie began. When he teamed with Harold Ramis to write the script there's no doubt in my mind that his intended tone was serious, but with touches of light relief (mainly from Venkman and Louis). Listen carefully to the dialogue, it's peppered with loads of credible scientific jargon and multiple cryptic references of almost Lovecraftian lore. This serious subtext weighs the film down in the thriller category more than comedy.The trio (and soon quartet) begin as researchers at Columbia University in NYC. But Venkman, only in it for an easy scam, ends up getting them thrown off campus. Ray and Egon have a plan for catching and eliminating paranormal threats to the public. With Venkman's conman skills, they take a chance and found 'Ghostbusters' in a derelict firehouse. Business is pitiful until Dana Barrett shows up claiming a voice from another dimension spoke to her through her fridge. Venkmen, enchanted by her, goes to her apartment to check her/it out. He finds nothing, unaware that behind her fridge is a secret doorway to a rooftop temple built as the venue point for Gozer, a destructive inter-dimensional traveler.Almost every aspect of Ghostbusters is honed to perfection. Ivan Reitman has never directed a better film. Elmer Bernstein's sumptuous score (often overshadowed by Ray Parker Junior's pop song) is utterly bewitching. The effects, while old-school, don't date the film one bit. The chemistry between the cast is wonderful, you actually believe that these guys have known each other for years. The fact that Harold Ramis plays the deadpan, deadly serious Egon despite having directed Caddyshack and Vacation (two of the most anarchic films ever) gives the chemistry a nice edge, since beneath the serious exterior you know he's actually the maddest one of the lot.However, I WILL complain about one thing (though it is relatively minor). I understand that movies need to be tightly edited to stop the audience from nodding off (but no one possibly could with Ghostbusters), but Reitman's last-minute tinkering renders a large chunk of the film senseless. It begins as soon as Winston arrives. He claims to the Mayor that he's worked with the company for a couple of weeks, but within the timeline of the movie he's only worked for them for a single day. Venkman's impromptu meeting with Dana at Lincoln Center is badly pasted on over Winston's 'interview'. Venkman arrives at the firehouse covered in slime, warps to Dana without slime, arranges a date for Thursday (which actually appears to be later that same night), before warping back to the firehouse, slime intact for his confrontation with Walter Peck (William Atherton, who has been typecast ever since).The original flow of the film included a scene at Fort Detmerring in which Ray and Winston investigate alone. Part of this scene is in the final product (Ray's encounter with a female ghost while dressed as a General) and the scene where Ray and Winston discuss the end of the world was actually their trip back from this scene. With this complete sequence intact, and the surrounding scenes rearranged, the timeline of the film would have made much more sense. Ivan Reitman has shown this complete version as private screenings, but I doubt the public will ever get to see it. The closest you will get is Richard Mueller's novelization 'Ghostbusters: The Supernatural Spectacular'. You can hunt it down, but it's very expensive.With much of Winston's screen time cut back, the character almost becomes largely redundant. Thankfully, he was developed more in the animated series and the sequel. And, redundant or not, it just wouldn't be the same without him.I'm not one for nostalgia, but 80s kitsch aside, Ghostbusters truly will stand the test of time forever. It's an absolute classic that'll never get old and truly deserves to be up there with the best of them.There have been a lot of complaints about the Blu Ray, but personally I think the film has never looked better. It has a very grainy look sometimes, but this was intentional, and I like it. The film looks super in 2.40:1 1080p. Ghostbusters was shot in anamorphic Panavision and the Blu Ray makes it look even more stunning. Sometime the picture is so good you can see through the effects (the gargoyle overlooking the road and the terror dog bounding across the street are good examples). The sound is in Dolby TrueHD and there are plenty of extras too, if can operate the infuriating menu.

I sooooo love this film, I went to see it multiple times when it was originally released, we had the video game on our Commodore 64 (very basic lol). It is one of those films that has endured time, the special effects are for the time are really good, funny in places and add to the humour as the guys go busting ghosts around the city. I want you to tell me what you think it is.And this little excerpt“Dr. Raymond Stantz”: Everything was fine with our system until the power grid was shut off by dickless here. “Walter Peck”: They caused an explosion!“Mayor”: Is this true?“Dr. Peter Venkman”: Yes it's true.[pause]“Dr. Peter Venkman”: This man has no dickBill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are two of my favourite characters; they make this film with a constant flow of great comedy. This level of fun and decent special effects for the time period make this film one to watch.Murray rules the screen, mauling his geeky para-psychologist partners and hitting on a young blonde while conducting shock therapy experiments on her. Aykroyd uses his standard machine gun delivery of obscure (or should I say made up) facts and anecdotes and Ramis is just enough for the ultra-dork 'Egon'. The funniest element in Ghostbusters happens to be Rick Moranis in a splendid role as a small-time accountant who has parties for clients only and becomes mixed up in some extremely supernatural events. Love ghostbusters

I really wonder where is the "4K UHD" claim coming from. It was too good to be believable.It takes 1 split of a second at the first few frames to make you realize that 4K UHD (or even HD) are nowere to be found in this movie. Maybe they did some upscaling and cleaning here and there (who knows) but it just looks like how you would normally expect if the claim wasn't there: a 1984 old movie.So do yourself a favour: buy this classic (because it should be a must in your film collection) but avoid the added premium of the "4K UHD" version.... that's just BS

Quarto film ufficiale della saga dedicata allo straordinario mondo di Ghostbusters, terzo film in ordine cronologico con il cast originale! Bello, emozionante e divertente con una storia che si ricollega al capitolo originale del 1984, mitico l'omaggio al compianto Harold Ramis! QUALITÀ DISCO: Blu Ray con Dolby Audio;DURATA: 124 Minuti;RECENSIONE:Il dubbio che si pone davanti alla visione di Ghostbusters: Legacy, più se considerarlo un Ghostbusters 3 o un reboot dell’originale, è il seguente: si può rifondare un mito? Perché questo è il punto dell’opera di Jason Reitman, figlio di Ivan Reitman regista del film del 1984, che esegue un passaggio di testimone famigliare, sia dentro che fuori dallo schermo. Trentasette anni dopo Ghostbusters ricomincia da un gruppo di ragazzi. Sono Trevor e Phoebe, fratello e sorella che, insieme alla mamma Callie, dopo lo sfratto si trasferiscono in una casa di campagna diroccata a seguito della morte del nonno, che non hanno mai conosciuto. Un nonno spooky, strano e solitario, eremita da decenni. Chi era costui? Non serve una particolare memoria cinematografica, né conoscere la scomparsa di uno degli attori nel 2014, per fare due più due. E nel lugubre capanno c’è una strana tuta col nome Spengler…Il regista chiede di evitare spoiler, ed ecco che si torna al punto principale: il mito. Il film si inserisce fluidamente nella rievocazione degli anni Ottanta, che va tanto di moda sin dalle prime immagini e soprattutto nella scelta del giovane protagonista: Finn Wolfhard nella parte di Trevor, evocando non i “veri” anni Ottanta, ma il loro immaginario, la messa in narrativa, come ci piace raccontare che furono. In modo simile Reitman cerca di assemblare un “Ghostbusters Past”, ossia una disposizione interiore che riporti al 1984; così c’è il lavoro sugli oggetti e i resti dell’epoca, che si rivela la parte più interessante di questa seduta spiritica.Più che nelle altre ricostruzioni serial-cinematografiche, qui le “cose” degli anni Ottanta si toccano: i diner ritornano, la chincaglieria è materica, anche gli snack sono tangibili, compresi i loro rimasugli perché parliamo di un’operazione di retroguardia. Gli acchiappafantasmi di ieri, oggi sono inevitabilmente “vecchi”, se non addirittura svaniti. Nessuno sa cosa siano quei ninnoli, a cosa servono le trappole: la mitologia dormiente sarà risvegliata dalle nuove generazioni.Il problema è che la prima parte di Ghostbusters: Legacy viene impostata come un lungo teen movie: i ragazzi scoprono la casa, trovano cose, prendono coscienza, eccetera. Un teen come tanti. Quando, troppo tardi, appare il primo Ghostbusters dopo oltre un’ora dei nuovi acchiappafantasmi, che somiglia a un piccolo brivido che ai geni che fecero l’originale.Poi certo, torna Gozer il gozeriano, il Mastro di Chiavi e il Guardia di Porta. Il racconto gioca sornione sul rifare le stesse sequenze, con piccole ma decisive variazioni: la migliore è la ri-forma dell’Uomo dei Marshmallow, che si moltiplica e da gigante diventa infinitamente piccolo. Ma siamo nei dintorni dello scherzo. Il film acquista senso negli ultimi minuti e compone un sentito omaggio metacinematografico, nei confronti di un acchiappafantasmi che “diventa” fantasma: l’attore scomparso resuscita in forma digitale e offre uno sguardo sulle possibilità del cinema, sulla capacità della lanterna magica di mostrare oltre la morte. Ma il più è già stato detto e fatto: i nerd possono cercare i loro easter eggs, per gli altri rifondare il mito non è stato possibile.Comunque nella prima ora, Ghostbusters: Legacy fa qualcosa di interessante, almeno parlo per me, attraverso Phoebe ho riscoperto il mondo che ho amato da piccolo, quando avevo la sua età. Impossibile per i fan non commuoversi quando ritrova la trappola e lo zaino protonico, quando il fratello solleva il lenzuolo che copre la Ecto-1 e si rivede la targa. Allo stesso modo chi è ignaro di tutto quell'universo lo può scoprire per la prima volta. Jason Reitman ha fatto la scelta azzeccata di fondere le due epoche, creando una specie di tempo sospeso, in cui anni '80 e anni '20 convivono.Phoebe rivede i video degli Acchiappafantasmi su YouTube, ma gli effetti speciali sono il più possibile simili a quelli artigianali dell'originale. L'ambientazione in una piccola città dell'Oklahoma, in cui il tempo sembra scorrere in maniera meno veloce di New York aiuta. Questa prima parte è sì molto storica, inquadrando gli oggetti con attenzione, rievocando la mitologia, ma allo stesso tempo dà l'idea di un qualcosa che viene tramandato di generazione in generazione.Quando però spunta il primo fantasma, Ghostbusters: Legacy diventa un'operazione molto simile ai film vecchi; comprensibile, ma forse sarebbe stato più interessante proporre nuove creature, nuovi problemi. Se questo film dovesse essere il primo di una nuova serie, e le intenzioni sembrano esserci tutte, spero che nei prossimi si osi di più e si lascino stare i fantasmi del passato.Il passaggio di testimone c'è stato, i nostalgici hanno avuto il loro momento catartico: spero che si guardi alle nuove generazioni adesso, perché altrimenti questo nuovo Ghostbusters resterà soltanto un mostro nostalgico che punta tutto, riuscendoci anche bene, sul fanservice e sui ricordi, quando invece potrebbe immaginare nuovi mondi. Anche perché le nuove leve ci sono: Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard e Logan Kim sono bravi e convincenti. Chiameremo presto loro? Se la risposta dovesse essere no, almeno, anche se molto familiare, è stata una bella corsa.CONCLUSIONI E COMMENTI GENERALI:Come ho scritto nella recensione di Ghostbusters: Legacy, Jason Reitman ha compiuto il miracolo: commuovere gli appassionati del franchise e far scoprire gli Acchiappafantasmi alle nuove generazioni, abbracciando il pubblico più vasto possibile. I nuovi giovani interpreti, Mckenna Grace su tutti, sono bravissimi e se a questo film dovessero seguire altri capitoli mi auguro che in futuro si punti a mostri e situazioni diverse. Il potenziale c'è.

Creo que es la misma edición que está editada en España. Castellano en idioma y subtítulos. Audio y video muy bien. Extras aceptables, aunque siempre hay películas en las que apatece tener más.Por un precio como el que tiene, merece la pena.A ver si vamos diciendonos entre todos aquellas ediciones que se pueden comprar. Sobre todo avisarnos de audios y subtítulos en castellano.esta opinión es de la edición alemana.

The transfer of this Bluray looks and sounds pretty decent for a movie released in 1984. If you want to own this classic movie you can't go wrong with buying this edition.
