It's not better than a light ring if you need a light ring. It's really bad at being a light ring.

Is this good for photos? Clear defined ?

This lamp gives a wide-spread non-flicker light with variable colour (from cool to warm - there's a knob!). It is excellent (and designed) for videos, but you could perfectly well use it to illuminate photography. I'm not sure what 'clear defined' means in your question - the shadows will not be super-sharp because the lamp provides a non-point-source. But that may suit your needs. Neil Record
