Superb Sony!!
I bought this Sony Radio/CD Player for my wife. She is a technophobe and does not like complicated gadgets! The Sony gives her the opportunity to listen to her CD's anywhere in the house and also to DAB Radio - we are 3 miles from the Digital 1 DAB Transmitter in Whitby so reception is excellent! The Sony is a really first rate product - excellent build, fit and finish, and exemplary sound ( I would recommend keeping MEGABASS switched ON.) There is just one slight annoyance - the instructions state that the Radio will automatically scan for DAB Radio Stations when first switched on IT DOES NOT!! The message DAB OFF AIR comes up on the Screen. I tried to do a Manual Scan, but it would not!! I saw the ENTER Button on the Unit, so I pushed the RADIO Button again and scrolled to Initial Scan, and pressed the ENTER Button. Lo and Behold the DAB Scan started and stored all the available stations in order. I saved BBC Radio 2,3, 4, and BBC Tees as well as Classic FM to the presets. The Sound Quality on all stations, and CD, is fantastic . I recommend the Sony DAB Boombox unreservedly, and Amazon's service - as always - was outstanding. If you are looking for a DAB/FM Radio CD Player, this is the one to go for - it has been an excellent purchase!! As always, if DAB is important to you, check coverage in your area before buying any DAB portable.

Feature Rich Boombox
I bought this for the mp3 functionality and it does not disappoint. Initially I was playing them straight off CD's no problem with the Mega Bass giving a good punch to the music. Then I tried the CD to USB record feature, worked ok but slow and can't play any music while it is copying. So I used my laptop to erase another USB stick and filled it with mp3 albums, these I organise into null parent folders 'MP3 001' etc. Then I plugged this stick into the front USB port on the Sony and it read them quickly. What I noticed and like a lot is the USB display mode does not show my null container folders 'MP3 001' and so on. A nice touch it only shows folders that contain mp3's. Very easy to navigate folders by pressing the front key 'TUNE - +' while playing. The 'DISPLAY' key also shows the track, author and folder info. When stopping the playback I press and hold the 'STOP' key until 'NO DEVICE' appears on the display.DAB radio works very well with 'MANUAL PRESET' allowing me to set up to 10 presets. Picks up Classic FM, KISS, KISSTory and so on no problem, though the higher the box the 'better' the reception. An external aerial port would be good to be able to plug in a powered aerial. Wall mounted with Cable Core mini trunking concealing the power cable it looks great! The supplied cable, as always, is rubbish. It's a straight figure of eight power lead 3 feet long. I bought a right angle figure of eight 3m long cable (like I did my TV) and can easily route the cable through the mini trunking. All in all a fantastic boombox, meaty looking with a rich punchy sound, great handling of .mp3 files and easy playback off USB sticks. Has a small 'graphic equalizer' strip on the front, though a richer multi-coloured display would be better. Also no backlight to the LCD screen. I Never Underestimate the Power of Playstation! :-)

GREAT, but nothing is perfect.
Made a good purchase here. Did lots of research and it really paid off. Pretty good sound, portable (battery option as well), easy to operate, bluetooth works great. It's not massively loud and does sound like a BOSE, but it you're after some fun and good sounds and not listening critically expecting HIFI you will love this stereo. Bought for my 7yr old son, but we have all ended up using it.Looks are unimaginative but appears well made. Good compromise between light weight and solid feel. One very small annoyance it that the carrying handle that lifts up gets stiff as it is fully extended and this action feels awkward. Oh, and the power cable that plugs in the back sticks out which means that it can't be pushed flush up against a wall - so many electrical things have this annoying problem and the socked should just be recessed. Partly for this reason, and also because of its dimensions it does take up some space and would require a fairly deep shelf.

Good sound quality but looks ugly
Good sound quality but quite an ugly design. With black buttons on a black background it looks like a large lump of coal and I would think people with impaired vision would have trouble distinguishing the control buttons. The instructions are not really clear and come on an A1 folded sheet of paper - why not a booklet? I'm quite a Sony fan and have an old ZS-X3CP which I bought from Amazon exactly 10 years ago. It's as good as new, totally reliable, performs flawlessly, great ergonomics and still looks more modern than this ugly black lump. I wanted the new Sony for DAB, etc., but have decided to return it and stick with my old model for the time being, as it sounds and looks so much better. Sony products have always had excellent build quality but the designers of the ZS-RS70BTB were obviously having a bad day when they styled this unit - maybe it was meant to be retro though! However, on the plus side this is the first time I've heard a radio with the DAB sounding better than FM.
