In the early fifth century the Christian world was racked by one of the fiercest theological disputes it had known since the Arian crisis of the previous century. The center of debate turned on the nature of the personhood of Christ, and how divine and human characteristics could combine in Jesus without rendering his subjectivity hopelessly divided, or without reducing his authentic humanness to an insubstantiality. St Cyril is, arguably, the most important patristic theologian ever to deal with the issues of Christology. The text here translated is one of his most important and approachable writings, composed in the aftermath of the Council of Ephesus (431) to explain his doctrine to an international audience. Review: A Beautiful Articulation of our Savior's Natures. - A fantastic work for both devotional reading and study. The translation flows smoothly, and the content (as to be expected with Cyril) is edifying and challenging. I would recommend this to any Christian interested in the conversation leading up to Ephesus and Chalcedon, and/or the hypostatic union. Review: Pleased - Great introduction

Great explanation of the Incarnation.
The translation seems accurate. Pope St Cyril big name in the Coptic church. I would say the main theme of this book is that human nature cannot save, only through God dying in the flesh could our indebtedness be satisfied. Pope St Cyril defends Jesus as eternal and natural Son of God, as apposed to being a man with a seperate existence assumed by the Word. I happy with the book's overall quality.

For theology geeks east and west, this is a great little book that will deepen your understanding of the Christological debates. Short, lucid and indispensable for any devout Christian. I love all of the titles in this series.
