Updating my previous review. I’ve purchased 5 of these since 2019 and they have all died. I’m buying another one because the light is super bright which we need when we’re out walking our dog on our dark road, especially in the winter. I also still appreciate the fact that it’s rechargeable so I don’t have to keep feeding it batteries. I have no idea why they keep dying - maybe the rechargeable batteries just have a limited life, but I’ll continue using them until I find something better, because when they work, they are super useful when we’re outside on a dark night or looking for a tiny object we dropped on the floor of the car. I haven’t found a flashlight that equals it in brightness of the focused light. Previous review: I bought this flashlight because it is rechargeable using a USB connection. I wanted a flashlight that didn't require batteries, which are not only expensive but harmful to the environment. The flashlight charges fairly quickly which is convenient for me because I carry it at night when I walk our dog. I always like it because it's fairly bright. There are no street lights on our road so it's fairly dark, especially on cloudy nights or when there's no moon out. It's also small enough so I can fit it in my coat pocket. One caveat - it does get warm after being on for a while. A couple of times I inadvertently left it on in my coat pocket and it really heated up. All in all though a great flashlight for the price. I've bought 3 or 4 of them so we can each keep one in our car. The only reason I gave it 3 stars for water resistance is that I've never dropped it in water so i don't know whether or not it would work. I've not had any problem with it when it's raining.

So I’m a local semi-truck driver and I needed a flashlight as I work second shift. I was looking for something smaller, but that still was very bright and durable. This flashlight has done ALL of that for me plus some. I’ve used this flashlight daily for a year now as I purchased it March 28th 2022. It has given me absolutely no issues. It’s bright, light, and I’ve dropped it MULTIPLE times on cement from it slipping out of my hands with my gloves on anywhere from 4ft-6ft high and it has never given me an issue. I’ve used it in the rain and snow with no problems either. As you could see from the picture mine is a little beat up and scratched up from use and from dropping it but as for the light itself it works as good as the day I bought it. It is MORE than bright enough especially considering how small it is. There’s two things I noticed about the flashlight that I’d like to mention though: 1: The brightness of this light WILL be effected by its battery life. On a full charge it’s great, when it starts getting towards the END of its charge you start to notice it is not as bright. There’s nothing wrong with that and most people will understand that, but just to give you a heads up incase you feel like the flashlight is dying out or breaking. It probably just needs a charge. 2: This flashlight does take awhile to reach a full charge. What works for me is putting it on the charger before bed and grabbing it in the morning before work. There’s also different modes on this flashlight. There’s a regular one, a fast strobe, slow strobe, etc. You can cycle through them by pressing the same on/off button the rear of the flashlight until eventually the flashlight goes to off again. Something I didn’t know was that if you click the button once the light will come on, if you press AND HOLD the button it will automatically shut off, without having to cycle through all the different types of modes again. I hope that makes sense. Definitely a 5/5 in my book. It does everything it needs to do and has held up great even after dropping it multiple times. Hope this helps!

I love it. I especially love it for the price. I would never carry this light because it's diameter increases near the emitter, the button is too small, and it has too many modes. It was however perfect for my dad who has needed a good flashlight for some time now. I was worried he would probably lose them on me so I never wanted to give him one of my $150+ snobby flashlights. I recently got one of the smaller anker lights and was impressed with it and gave him that but it's a pain for him to have an 18650 charger in his rv or try to find cr123a batteries in strores so as soon as I saw this as a lightning deal for $16 I knew I had to get it for him because of the micro usb charging. Like my smaller anker light it has a tight "hotspot" and a dimmer spill than I would like but it's still very bright and has excellent throw. Also it's worth noting that I think Anker is underrating the lumens as it is rated at 400 lumens but seems to be on par with 800 lumen flashlights from olight and surefire. My one 1050 lumen flashlight is definitely brighter and it's medium 400 lumen setting appears dimmer than the Anker. The button is very small due to the charging port being next to it but for what he will use it for that's actually a good thing because it will have less of a chance of getting turned on bouncing around in a box or bag in his rv or truck. The thing I like least about the light are the numerous modes. High, Med, Low, Strobe, SOS, off by button presses and a long press of the button will turn the flashlight off. That's kind of a lot to toggle through and I never use anything but high and medium on my other flashlights. If you turn it off with a long press it will remember the mode it was in when you turn it on again. I can't complain though. The price is SO good especially considering it has an internal battery and charger. My "snob" lights were all $150+ and batteries and chargers were sold separately and they are only a little bit better than this light (subjectively). It's just a great, solid, simple light without any hassle to get all the lumens at a great price.

The Anker Bolder flashlight is a great little flashlight to keep around the house or to take hiking. I have only owned the flashlight for about a week, but so far I have been very satisfied with it. The construction feels solid and not cheap or flimsy. I like the size of the flashlight as it is not overly large, but not so small that you will lose it or drop it easily. I mainly use it for hiking as it fits perfectly in the pocket on my Hazard 4 chest harness. It has 5 light modes, including 3 brightness settings. I find the medium setting to be sufficiently bright for most activities and even the lowest brightness setting is bright enough for indoor use. It also has a flashing strobe setting like many other lights do, I haven't found much use for this setting but it functions as it's supposed to. The last setting is an S.O.S. signal which I found unique and could particularly come in handy while hiking. The flash light is rechargable and all you need is a mini USB cable which you can plug in to a phone charger or computer. The flashlight has a small LED light on the bottom that let's you know when it is fully charged. I haven't gotten it very wet yet so I can't say how weather resistant it is, but I did hike to a water fall where my clothes got soaked through from the spray coming off the water fall and I was carrying the flashlight in my Hazard 4 chest harness. It still functioned fine afterwards. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that you have to fully depress the button to turn it on. With some other lights you can just lightly press the button and the light will activate and deactivate as soon as you let go. This feature is desirable if you are in law enforcement, or the military, where you may need to quickly turn the light on or off. This is the only reason I give the flashlight 4 instead of 5 stars. For this price tho you really can't go wrong purchasing this flashlight.

I have purchased, oh maybe a dozen of these Anker flashlights- Model LC40 ( only this model for review- they lump these together sometimes!). It is compact, very bright - even on medium bright- and the pocket clip is strong- I keep one hung on my shirt pocket(outside, it IS about 1" dia on bulb end, 3/4" dia the handle- too chubby to fit in my pocket with my other doodads for me). They are durable aluminum, having dropped on concrete floors dozens of times from my grip, not from ladder- perhaps a couple times) and still function great. This is not a focusing beam type, no moving parts. have oqned so many bc I have given some away to my family, glove compartments and a couple rooms in house- the strobe is quite strong- i think handy as part of the home self defense ( too short to be a weapon). These can sit in a drawer for weeks and weeks and still work great- i use mine lit for maybe 4-5 hrs a day (mostly on hi) and it rarely runs out of juice. The on/ off button will turn it off at current setting if you hold the button for 2 seconds, shorter than that just cycles to next function (hi, med,low, strobe , sos). Very pleased, and I have had one replaced with warranty that broke after two weeks (and one drop). Recommendation by a repair tech mechanic - me!

I ordered this after I was impressed with one of those generic 18650 based weapon lights as a backup to stick in my pack. I replaced it with this one and am now ordering the bigger model as well for this Anker's original intended role. Hopefully it's the same basic build scaled up. I am not a flashlight aficionado, so keep that in mind. There may be a much better deal out there, but I haven't found it. I just wanted light and convenience, this delivered. The mode button has been mentioned as a negative. There are two ways to use it: 1. From OFF, the first press yields the full 400 lumen output. Another tap for the dimmer output (still reasonably powerful) and two more for the fast/slow strobes. A final tap turns it off. Pressing it again begins the loop anew. 2. Holding the button in any mode turns the light off after a second or two. A tap will turn on the last setting used. For a weapon light this can be useful as with a single tap it's dispatching a rapid flash of 400 lumens. In a select few circumstances, this may prove useful for disorientation and -might- allow you to avoid using lethal force on an attacker. It's only useful in that role if your mount places the button within easy reach. The highest virtue I can think of in a cheap flashlight is doing everything pretty well. WWater resistance, battery life, size to output/runtime, aesthetics, blend of flood and spot, even coverage etc, remaining reliable under moderate abuse and lacking any severe compromises. If the mode button setup will irk you, look elsewhere. Otherwise this thing is dank! It's brighter than the "1200 lumen" weapon light (which is no slouch) despite purportedly containing the same LED. It looks nice, it feels nice. It's lightweight but does not feel cheap, its finish lending it the feel of a precision optic. Just the feel, no claims of equitable build quality here. The low weight is also a few grams less on the front of a shotgun or rifle. My cousin's surefire feels better, but not THAT much better, at something like 6x the cost. If surefire bought these from anker and rebranded them with a revised mode button and top shelf 18650 cell for triple the money, I suspect it would still be considered a good value. No one gave me anything for this review. I'm glad I tried this flashlight.

I've never written a product review before, but this flashlight has been through it all with me so I believe it's time. I've had this flashlight in my pocket almost every day for three years as of this month. The size is just small enough that it fits in my front pocket with the other things I carry there. I've taken it with me to fight fires, swap a transmission, fell trees, and locate countless tiny screws and springs on the shop floor, along with every other thing I've done in that time. It's gotten wet, taken hard falls (both in and out of the pocket) from high up onto concrete more times than I can count. And finally after three straight years of abuse, it's begun to show the slightest signs of wear, functionally of course, cosmetically speaking there isn't much black left. The only thing wrong is it'll flicker and go a little dimmer every once in a while and I'll have to shake it to go back to bright. The battery life isn't bad but it's not what it used to be, still it's very good. I was going to buy the exact one again but the new olight baton 3 pro caught my eye since it's smaller, brighter and doesn't make you cycle through all the modes every time you turn it off. The strobe/7 button pushes to turn off always did bothered me, but the reliability and form factor truly outmatched anything I could have imagined when buying this for 30 or so dollars years ago. Thanks Anker for a great product! I half expect the new olight I got to be less reliable, I'll update here if it was worth switching when it breaks.

This is a fantastic little handheld torch! Its beam rivals Mag-Tac and exceeds Mini-Mag but there is no beam zoom control. The crowned bezel and tail make it a great torch to carry for personal safety and the selectable modes (3 brightness, a strobe and an SOS) makes it very practical. The button on the tail cap is a bit fiddly to make room for the micro USB charging port but it’s not worth taking a star off it. However, in conjunction with the way the modes are selected, it nearly does lose that star. You have to cycle through the modes: this would benefit from Mag-lite’s quick click or something similar, as mode selection can be a faff. You can turn it on at the most recent setting by holding the button for a second from the off position, but it’s an inconvenience when there could be another way. However, it is not expensive so you can’t have everything for that money. Good warranty as with other Anker products, great quality feel and durable design. Powerful LED and useful built in clip too. I found the clip to be very sturdy, but its design is for convenience of access, not stability of mounting on Belt or bags and I found that it kept getting knocked off. As a side benefit, I can attest to its ruggedness as it has hit the ground numerous times, both from my belt and from the RSM radio loop on my duty jacket.
