What I like about this book is that the author of this book laid out the most importants informations most Americans should know about Black Scientists etc….. It’s well written

My 9yo son is interested in engineering a lot and history not so much :-). So this book does both and my son (and 12yo daughter) are loving the stories that intermingle both the history and the stories of innovation, engineering and inventing!

I bought this book for my 6th grade science students. It pairs nicely with another book that provides shorter excerpts of names found in this book. My intention is to teach my students about African American, Hispanic and Asian scientists as well as women scientist of all races. I grew up only being taught about caucasian male scientists... times have changed.PROS: There are 7 inventors and 7 scientists. Each African American male is written about in great detail for about 10-20 pages, and there are photo(s) of each person. Scanned documents, such as official letters and handdrawn illustrations of inventions, are especially nice. Footnotes include credible sources with a bibliography at the back.CONS: There are no women in the book. I hope that if this book is revised, Louis Haber includes women (plural).

I am using this with my 6th and 7th grader for their science biography, we love it so far. I didn't notice any other reviews mentioning this, FYI, g--d---it is found on page 205. I just took white-out to cover it. Otherwise, a great book and my kids have enjoyed reading it!

Good read. This lets my child know where some of the black pioneers that helped shape America.

My grandchildren were excited to receive this book!

My kids and I are going to read one chapter per week and study and learn about each person in the book! They wouldn't learn about these people in school, so it's really important to me to have tools like this to help me in teaching my kids this history myself!
