Why didn't I buy one sooner!
After about a year of hearing how great air fryers are, I broke down and started shopping for one myself. Stayed away from the air fryer's with teflon in them, and found this non-toxic gem. Wish I had purchased one of these a long time ago! I've made veggies, tofu and appetizers, and everything has cooked great! I like that you can see it while it is cooking! I've been putting a cutting board under it in case it gets too hot, but I don't think it would be an issue if I used it without. It is easy to clean, works quickly and has to use less energy than heating up the regular oven!

Best countertop fryer/oven
This is my favorite appliance. I hardly ever use my oven anymore, this is so much easier to heat and clean. I always cook my Thanksgiving turkey in the Big Boss, and it turns out perfectly every time - very moist and delicious. Tater tots, stuffed jalapenos, nachos, chops, burgers, veggies... I highly recommend this product.

Staying with the Boss
This is my third air fryer. As you can see in the picture, I replaced an earlier version of the Boss which stopped working after approximately 3 to 4 years of everyday use. Our family loves this appliance. Before I bought this one and looking for a change, I went out and bought a popular air fryer oven. Being skeptical that it would be better than the Boss, I unpacked it carefully so that I could repack it and return it without any problem. I'm glad I did that. I returned it that same day. As with the air fryer I returned, I found that most of the air fryers do not go over 400 degrees. I like a higher heat option. The Boss goes up to 480. I think that the big difference in performance is the halogen light. When I gave the air fryer oven (the one I returned) a test, it did not give as nice of a crisp outer texture as the Boss. It also took a couple of minutes longer to cook. In the picture the old Boss is on the left. You can see they went from a digital push buttons to analog dials. I prefer the analog, this it is a little bit quicker and easier. Another feature I like about the Boss, is that it is so easy to see how the cooking is going. Being all glass and with the halogen light cooking it is so easy to check on your food and keep it from burning. It is also easy to clean. Most of the time I just wipe it out. I also have a bunch of pie pans that I use most of the time which also makes it easy to clean: No crumbs falling down. A couple of times I have used the self clean mode which works good. The new Boss also came with a cooking screen which I love. It also comes with a nice user manual and recipe book. From one of the previous Bosses I have bought, I have a top holder which I think they should have as part of the included accessories. If I have a complaint, it is how long the last two previous ones have lasted. I hope I can get a little longer life span out of this one. However, as I stated it gets used daily and often several times in a day. I have also taken it to family gatherings to cook with when I know that there will not be oven space for my meal contribution. With the extension ring it is amazing how much I can fit in the Boss. I bought a casserole dish that fits in it that works for a large crowd. So in about 3 to 4 years I will probably be buying another. But at just over $65 it seems worth it to me. The one I bought and returned was $150 with a three year extended warranty. The Boss is a 2 year warranty. So if in over 2 years I have to buy another, I will still be ahead. With price, performance, and adaptability, I am glad I bought another.

It cooks great! As long as it works.
After several friends recommended this model above all other air-fryers (compact convection ovens), I ordered it. I adore fried chicken wings and that is all I ever cooked in it. But the wings came out SO GREAT that I used it at least twice a week. I am a "foodie" and "food snob" and I considered the wings cooked in this machine to be even better than the chicken I fried in a skillet on the stove, and both (a) neater and (b) easier than skillet-frying. Also: just a quick spray of oil onto the chicken rather than wasting a ton of oil frying (even shallow frying, my preferred method) chicken. So I was THRILLED. Then it stopped working, about 6 weeks after I received it. The halogen bulb just died. When I contacted Amazon I was informed that it was past the return period, but they issued me pre-paid postage and a full credit anyway, which WAS GREAT!!!! I suspect it was because this occurred during Amazon "prime days" and the customer service reps were so darn busy that it was just cheaper (labor-wise) to let me return it.Here is my theory about the break-down: unlike "drawer" fryers that often use electric coils (instead of halogen bulbs) and the user moves/removes the cooking drawer to get the food in/out, this cooker uses a halogen light (halogens are powerful but delicate) and, most importantly, in order to get the food in/out the user HAS TO LIFT/REMOVE the actual cooking unit (which includes the bulb) from on top of food bowl. If you do this even a bit roughly, a few times, you're going to kill the halogen bulb. There are ways to replace the bulb, but it's expensive (you might as well replace the cooker). After I returned this cooker/fryer I ordered the more expensive Phillips cooker which uses a drawer. After one use I returned it. It did not have anywhere near the food capacity, it did not cook the chicken even close to as efficiently, and the cooking drawer was much harder to clean than the lovely glass pyrex cooking bowl of this unit. Bleah! My resolution was this: I returned the Phillips immediately, I am re-ordering the Big Boss, and I will be very, very gentle with the cooking lid that holds the halogen light. Also I am buying the extended warranty, which is cheap. This cooker is the BEST. Just be gentle with it and spend $5 on the extended warranty. Then enjoy your delicious food!
