Guardian Zhen Hun (Novel) Vol. 1

Book arrived in pristine condition and I read it cover to cover right away. How much do I love this story. I am so pleased to have a translation of the actual book. This is Volume 1 so there is more to come. I like all the characters. I love the folk-lore and mythology that inspired the author's imagination. At the dawn of time, the world is created out of Chaos and the force of creation is focused by entities that form the world and make mankind and then one by one sacrifice themselves to seal the sky and the boundaries between the ghost and human realms. Zhao Yunlan is anyone's idea of a hero, handsome, swash-buckling and born with weird gifts for after all he is the Guardian and Chief of the Special Investigation Unit and any supernatural incident that could harm the Human Realm falls under his remit. His team are interesting enough with ghosts, a monk, an ancient talking cat, a hapless swooning intern et al but one of his most intriguing contacts is the Soul-Executing Emissary, swathed in dark mist, incalculable, fearsome, terrifying to ghosts and humans alike and older than the Netherworld. And of course, the love interest, handsome, clever, gentle mild-mannered professor, Shen Wei. A man who has his own mysteries and resolutely plays hard to get. I think Priest is such an excellent story-teller and writer and there is so much to this novel. I cannot wait for Volume 2.

This is a fun book, the first in a trilogy. The characters are endearing and I have been rooting for the main leads to get together. It holds one's interest enough to be a page Turner and wanting to get to the next chapter. I'm intrigued by the mysterious "Shen Wei". Aside from the supernatural contents, there is also a lot of comedy to balance it out. I like the explanations of mythology that are an aside to the main text.

Goof book for my daughters day

The parcel arrived open with part of the package ripped away. It was left on my doorstep not in the postbox as described. Luckily the item was intact.

Priest does not shy away from gore, dark topics etc, even in what may seem as a surprisingly wholesome and simple book. This is such a good read and everyone should give it a try as their first danmei novel in a modern setting!

Been wanting to get this book for ages but didn't have the money, so when saw it was on sale bought immediately. Book came in great condition and can't wait to start reading

From the very first chapter, the plot pulls you into a world filled with mystery, supernatural investigations, ancient secrets, and layered characters. Every revelation feels carefully placed, and the slow unfolding of the larger mystery keeps you constantly wanting “just one more chapter.” What truly makes this novel shine is the dynamic between the main characters. Their chemistry is subtle yet powerful, filled with tension, loyalty, and unspoken emotion that builds beautifully throughout the story. The world-building is rich without being overwhelming, and the author does an incredible job weaving mythology and modern elements together seamlessly. And I have to talk about the cover — it is genuinely one of my favorite danmei covers ever. The artwork perfectly captures the atmosphere of the story: dark, elegant, and mysterious. The design feels meaningful and polished, and it looks absolutely stunning displayed on a shelf. As a collector, this edition feels extra special. If you love supernatural mysteries with deep characters and emotional storytelling, this volume is a must-read. I cannot wait to continue the series.

L'histoire est superbe. Pas de description de scène intime qui ne plaît pas à beaucoup d'entre nous. Juste une belle histoire qui se forme dans ce premier livre. La suite est tout aussi enivrante et cette relation devient captivante sans avoir de description de scene de sex qui changerai complètement le style chinois du BL. Magnifique !!
