A few reviews mentioned that this bear sheds. Is it bad enough that the bear won't look good in time? How excessive is the "shedding"?

I too was surprised at the lack of quality in the fur used on this teddy bear, considering it was from the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. It looked like a cheap teddy bear and I wouldn't recommend it to others. I was very disappointed in the quality. I ordered another one and it was the Gund teddy bear and that was much better quality.

Unfortunately no. Orders fulfilled through Amazon do not come in the Vermont Teddy Bear Bear-Gram box.

is 20" sitting down or stretched from head to toe?

Head to toe. And it’s more like 19” per my measure. But definitely worth buying: so soft and cuddly.

What are the directions for washing this teddy bear?

Haven't needed to wash it yet but it says "machine washable (delicate).
