IB Course Companion: Biology (International Baccalaureate)

I currently teach IB Biology HL, and I require all of my students to purchase this book for class. This edition is an improvement from the last with the addition of color and the accompanying CD. The students swear by the reviews at the end of the chapter (with answer keys in the back of the book), and the concise explanations the authors give of the content. The data questions found within each chapter are a great review for Paper 2 & 3, and the labs in the book are useful too. Overall this is the best resource I have found in helping to prepare students for the IB Biology exam.

I had the biology book from Pearson Baccalaureate, but this book is 10x better. I liked using the Pearson Baccalaureate for the assessment statements, but this course companion explained everything better.

It is brand new and not used. My daughter likes it. It is great buy in such a low price.

The book I purchased was in perfect condition. Since I had to prepare myself for coming exams, the book proved to be useful for the studies. One of the best feature is the CD containing questions and interesting animations. I highly recommend it for everyone who attend IB Diploma programme and choose either biology sl or hl course.

While the excellent book is a valuable resource for students and especially teachers studying/ teaching IB Biology, it should not be mistaken for a textbook. While all the topics at Standard and Higher level and all the Options are included within the one book, the depth of coverage is not sufficient to make this a "one stop shop" for IB Biology. It is my understanding that this was actually never the intention with this volume - but it is important that buyers know this.In reality this book is more of a guide to the "thinking" of the course writers, with each chapter acting as a guide to what's important in the topic, rather than a comprehensive account of the content covered. In this regard the sections on Internal Assessment and the examples of the data based questions that are found in Paper 2 are very valuable indeed.Given the growing importance the IB is placing on the Core materials of the diploma (ie TOK, EE and CAS) the suggested made within this book on how teachers can respond to these in the course of their normal classroom teaching are very valuable.This is excellent book for teachers of IB Biology, but if it is issued to students they will need either additional material from a range of other sources, or an additional textbook of some form. The title of the book makes it clear it as a "course companion" ie it needs company!
