Living with little to nothing
I loved this book. The author is so descriptive he makes you feel like you are in the swamps or in the shack that the people lived in. Growing up in the South on a farm, I saw people that lived like the people in the book. I'm thankful to authors that can write about the times that were so difficult for black people and poor whites in the time period of this book. I think people of the later generations or people who grew up in the cities have no idea what it was like for them.

A good read...
I enjoyed reading about John who is an intelligent, privledged white boy, and the transition his life took after his mother's death. If you're looking for a sex-filled book, this is not it. But if you're looking for a 'good read' book about migrant life and black belt life in the south in the 50's, you'll enjoy this book.

Excellent book about a boy adjusting to his new life in 1960s Alabama.
Great book. Loved reading the story about Lower Peachtree and Gee's (Kay's) Bend. Would make a good movie.

another good read
This is the second in a series by Pat Cunningham Devote. It is almost better than the first one, My Last Days as Roy Rogers. I loved this book and looked forward to the third book which was also great.

Good read.
great read. I could not put it down . I thought it was another typical southern novel and it was not typical at all. Really enjoyed and gave insight into that time.

Brought back memories of a different time
I normally do not read anything but mysteries but this book held my interest and brought back some memories as I grew up during the time of the book.
