Comfortable for the toddler and for myself
So the main reason I picked one of these up wasn't for hiking, but for the daily walks I have with my toddler. Usually I put him in his stroller and go walk for two miles, but I found that too easy and didn't fell challenged. I figured with one of these, it would be a little more challenging because instead of pushing a stroller, I would be carrying his weight. When this arrived, I set it up to fit comfortably, put him in and made sure he was secure, then placed the backpack on the table and was able to put it on without any assistance. We did our two mile walk and I did feel like it was more challenging than just pushing the stroller. When we got back to the house I was able to remove it on the table, lower it to the floor and get him out. Now, when it's time to go for a walk, he goes to the backpack instead of the stroller. I think he enjoyed having the height. All in all, I'd recommend it.

Designed in Ireland, but made in China. Too Small. Beware of Return Shipping!
This looked like a great backpack for me to take my young toddler on short hikes. I like the design and construction overall-- especially the high-visibility orange/grey color pattern for safety. But there are a couple of issues.First, if you're going to buy one of these backpacks, there are two versions: One with a small detachable backpack, and one without. For the extra ten bucks, get the one with the detachable backpack. It's not large-enough for an adult or large child to use, but it's a great size for a toddler who starts walking with more confidence.Second, the internal harness is needlessly complicated. It uses a system of dual buckles much like a car seat or deluxe high chair. But it doesn't need it because the child is essentially sitting in a large bucket and cannot move or escape anyway. There should indeed be a buckle or safety strap, but I found the arrangement used here to be needlessly restrictive (it's like a straitjacket for larger kids and it caused my son to start screaming and he didn't like being bound-- even the loosest setting).Third, the backpack needs an additional grab strap or to relocate the grab strap in order to lift it off the ground with your child it in. There's only one grab strap and-- because of where it's located, the center of gravity causes the whole bag to swash-buckle towards you. Then you've got a long object at a 45-degree angle with your kid in it, and you've got to dead lift it with a bent-over back, to try and lift the pack up on your shoulders. It's hard to describe in text, but anyone who's been backpacking with a 50-60lbs pack knows what I'm talking about. Your grab strap should always be on the very top, close to the side of the pack where your head is.Fourth, this pack is smaller than expected. The storage area was huge, but the actual area for my kid was much smaller than I expected. My 14-month old wouldn't fit (at least not using the internal straps which were too small and restrictive). Not sure how they decided on the maximum capacity, but I understand this pack can only hold a total of 40lbs (including the storage department). That doesn't leave much room or weight for a child over 12 months-- and I thought I saw this advertised for toddlers.Fifth-- and finally-- I think the manufacture of this has made a good effort, but there are two things I didn't really appreciate it in how this pack was presented on Amazon. The company sort of plays up an Irish connection, but the bag is made in China. I was expecting European design and manufacturing, not Chinese. Also, I've bought a lot of family gear for our son, and so I totally get that what works for one family won't work for another. When you're ordering something through the mail and don't have an option to try it in a store, you've got to make the leap and order it, hoping it will work out, but if it doesn't, you can return it. However, if you do buy this pack and it doesn't work out, you'll be charged return shipping-- even if you're a Prime Member. Over twenty bucks return shipping on this pack! Just be aware of this if you think you'll give it a go.

Excellent value
I have only used it once so far, but this carrier is certainly a fantastic value. We went for a three hour hike and my 13 month old was shaded and comfortable the whole time. I know she was happy because she ate, drank and slept the entire way with almost no fussing! I felt that she was very secure in her seat, and the pack itself was stable and comfortable on my back. The removable day pack is a great feature, and will be perfect size for my little girl in a year or two. I'm really glad I bought this carrier rather than spending three times as much on a designer brand. Thank you Luvdbaby for developing a high quality and affordable product.

Missing items
Arrived without the extra parts. No canopy, no changing pad. 3 point harness doesn’t adjust very well. Not worth the money at this point. Will update after outdoor use, but super disappointed there is no canopy cover to protect my little one from the sun nor a changing pad as the description states it has both.
