Q: Does the Black button under the ball need to be removed so it spins?

No I didn't have a black button. The ball really didn't spin after I had the fountain for a few months, so I threw it out. It was very nice, but didn't last long.

Q: Exactly where does the cord for the led lights go that is supposed for the glass globe ?? the directions do not mention it at all...

There is one cord for the whole unit and that includes the LED lights.

Q: What happens if the rolling sphere is removed? How long is the cord?

Water will definitely NOT spray all over. The water stream is very, very minimal. The large marble is decorative, but removable

Q: can you turn the light off?

No. And the fountain itself does not have an on/off switch. You have to unplug it.
