One of the best books I have ever read!
A Light in the Flame is the second book of the Flesh and Fire series, and I got an ARC in exchange for an honest review. It was my first Jennifer L. Armentrout ARC, since I became part of the team, and it was something that I dreamed of for years now. I had high expectations for this book, and it didn’t disappoint. This was one of my favorite JLA books. I still have no words to describe how much I loved it and how much it drove me crazy! It’s a rollercoaster of emotions. I was addicted and spent three days doing nothing but reading. It’s a big book, a lot happens, and new information is revealed: we get some answers, and we get more questions. It’s a book that has everything: great characters - with great development - good action scenes, and important scenes where so much happens and changes, and I had to stop to process everything I had just read. The first half of the book is a little slower than the second, but both have their importance for the story. I guessed part of the end, but it still left me screaming at my kindle, with the way things happened. I have so may theories and thoughts and this book is just out and I cannot wait for the next one already.About the characters. Sera is becoming one of my favorite characters ever. I loved her so much in this book! She is so strong and snarky and has this powerful personality that makes her strong and vulnerable at the same time. I love the fact that even if she is strong she has scars that she is working on healing and that makes her character more complex and interesting. Also, her sarcasm and snarkiness are hilarious. Nyktos was even better in this book, in my opinion. We got to see more sides of him, and he is so dreamy! I really liked his character, as a man, the love interest, and as a primal god. He is complicated but he is a good guy and would do everything for the ones he cares about. Usually, I am more of an anti-hero kind of girl and prefer the bad boys, but Jen got me with Nyktos, I really swooned for him during the whole book. With how much I loved these two, it’s no surprise that I loved the romance aspect of the book. The tension and angst were off the charts, but also the sweet moments, and confections, and the way they are there for the other, even when they don’t realize they needed each other. The side characters as it’s Jen style are also amazing, and great complements to the story. The Draken are my favorite though. Nektas with his wisdom and humor – he has this way of always knowing everything and uses that to annoy Sera and it’s hilarious – and the babies Jadis and Reaver, they are the sweetest thing and I want a baby Draken. In this book we also have a better approach to the real enemies, we get to know more about what is really at stake here, and the game levels up. We also have new characters, some good, some bad, but all are important pieces on the chess board. But there are three specific characters that I really want to see painfully dead. With everything we discovered in this book and the prophecy, the connections with the From blood and Ash series are growing and I’m so curious to find out what is Jen’s master plan with all of this. The book was amazing, five stars because I cannot give more, because if I could give a hundred I would. I laughed like a maniac and cried like a baby. Jen plays with our emotions, and I loved every single page. It gave me one of the biggest book hangovers of my life and reinforced JLA as my favorite author ever.

✨ 4.5 ✨
A Light in the Flame was a gripping and compelling follow up in the Flesh and Fire series. This book picks up immediately after the ending of A Shadow in the Ember, so I would highly recommend just reading that book first. I also suggest checking the content and trigger warnings before reading.I did have several theories on how the storyline would play out and I was pleasantly surprised by the direction of the story. There was more world building and new information regarding the prophecy and the embers that left me even more invested in the story. There were also a lot of action packed, intense, heartbreaking and amusing moments. One of my favorite aspects of this story was Sera’s struggle and journey with her mental health. The discussions regarding anxiety and depression were heartbreakingly beautiful and just so well written. The story also showcased how much of a fighter Sera was and her willingness to take matters into her own hands.I also just loved all the side characters. There were some very amusing and entertaining banter and exchanges between them all. Sera’s bond with Jadis and Reaver was so heartwarming as well. I just really liked how there were characters and scenes that completely surprised me and left me speechless. I’ll be honest and say, there was a character that I completely misjudged that I now feel horrible about. My biggest issue with the story though was the pacing and the repetitiveness. There were just a lot of slow moving parts that definitely could have been better handled. The build up to the main plot point just dragged quite a bit to be honest. The romance between Nyktos and Sera was absolutely incredible. There was angst, tension, heartache and love. The spice between them was so intense and passionate. I just really loved how they argued like an old married couple.Nyktos’ compassion and sacrifice absolutely broke my heart. This book definitely showed more of his character and his undying willingness to protect those he cares about. There was a scene that made me bawl my eyes out and Sera’s reaction was just heartbreaking. There were just a lot of secrets and truths discovered that blew me away. The last few chapters were very action packed and intense. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Be warned that this does end on a massive cliffhanger that absolutely left me screaming.Overall, just a captivating read and I cannot wait for the next book in the series!!

Maravilhoso!

Best read of the year, if not ever.
No words could possibly compliment this book enough. This may be the best novel of the entire series and I cannot wait for the continuation of Sera & Ash(Nyktos)'s story. I imagine the story will only get even better from here. The plot from the beginning was capturing and kept a steady pace of events throughout. We got to feel and experience all of the emotions from so many characters and the development of plot and tying everything together was mind blowing. Also have NO complaints about the spice. Perfection.

Ich liebe die Reihe
Ash ist einer meiner Lieblingsfantasycharaktere, ich kann nur jedem, der Fantasie mit erotischem Beigeschmack mag, die A Light in the Flame-Reihe ans Herz legen.
