At first I had a bit of difficulty trying to figure out how to calibrate it, but now I use it over my regular tamper. It doesn't hurt my wrist, and I get an even tamp every time. Nice and heavy, looks good, and easy to store.

This is a great tamper when you’re getting into this rabbit hole that is espresso/coffee making. An issue I was having was knowing how far down to tamp, how hard etc. It was a variable, and variables are bad!! This tamper means I get a nice, consistent tamp every time. Push down and eventually the spring yields. Job done. The tamper itself feels weighty and well made. It even has a little metal “holder” to store it on the side when not in use. Would highly recommend this for anyone starting out on their coffee journey.

This tamper is very easy to use and has a perfect weight thanks to the stainless steel build. It evenly tamps the espresso puck, and the 53.3mm fit works flawlessly with my Breville Espresso machine. The puck prep I’m able to achieve has noticeably improved the taste of my espresso. The sleek design is modern, durable, and looks great on my coffee bar.

Initially, I struggled a bit with calibrating it, but once I got the hang of it, I found it comfortable to use. The weight is nice, making it feel sturdy in my hand, and I like the even tamp it provides every time. However, I did notice that the spring mechanism can be a bit stiff, which might take some getting used to. Occasionally, I see some lumpiness around the edges of my puck, but a quick spin of the tamper usually resolves that. One downside is that it’s not height adjustable, which could be an issue if you don’t fill your portafilter basket consistently high. I also found that using it with my palm instead of a traditional handle requires some adjustment to maintain a level tamp. Overall, I think this tamper is a great upgrade from a hand tamper, providing the consistency I need for better espresso. While it’s a bit pricey, I believe it’s worth the investment for coffee enthusiasts looking for quality. If you’re new to tampers, just be prepared for a slight learning curve! I hope you find this review helpful in making an informed decision. Your feedback is always welcome. Cheers, Straight Shooter
