A remarkable improvement
I have been using Philips rotary shavers for more than 50 years. The 5400 has been re-engineered and significantly improved to deliver an exceptionally close and confortable wet shave. Removing and replacing the heads for cleaning is much easier, addressing one of my main concerns with older models. After six months of use I have only good things to say about this shaver, but it is too early to assess the rechargeable battery life.

40 shaves on ONE CHARGE
After getting a job requiring me to shave my face each day in case I have to wear a respirator (chemical warehouse), I knew I did not want to deal with shaving cream and a manual razor every morning. This thing gets pretty dang close, close enough for me to have not been questioned since I started. I use it dry before I hop in the shower and doesn't seem to irritate if I moisturize after. Oh and by the way, it has been TWO MONTHS and I'm finally writing this review as it is indicating the battery is about empty. That's 2 months of M-F shaving which is 40 shaves on one full charge. Holy crap.

It’s okay for Norelco
I bought this to replace my 15ish year old Norelco that I had to use plugged in due to the battery being dead for about a decade (which I didn’t mind). My old model was only like 40/50 bucks so it was a low end one at the time.. I figured 15 years later the new “middle of the road” would be a lot better but I was wrong. This new model doesn’t get as close as the old cheap one. I notice that the 5:00 shadow arrives much earlier than if I use my old one. I think the old blades used to lift the hair then cut it and these new ones don’t (I think the 9000series still uses them)… maybe they did this to prevent irritation for new users?Initially, the shape of the new head made it a pain to get under the nose, but after a few times, I got used to turning it in a way that it reaches a little better. One thing that I like about the new head is how easy it is to empty in comparison to the older models. You can quickly shave with this without missing any hairs or getting any pulling. The motor is strong, blades are sharp so I do still recommend it if you are in the market.I guess my final suggestion would be that if you are looking for a great shaver at this price point, get it. It is still a great product and likely the best out there unless you want to spend a lot more.If you are a long time Norelco user that has and is used to the lift and cut blades, I would just bite the bullet and spend the money on a 9000 series. Like I said, I have one still kicking after 15 maybe even closer to 20 years. It’s not like you won’t get your moneys worth.

Cuts clean and close
I’ve tried a few electric razors over the years but they always left me with razor burn and ingrown follicles. I was hesitant to buy another one, this one has been fantastic. I use it exclusively as a wet shaver coupled with shaving cream. It cuts very nice and closer than my normal razor could. I did take my face a week or so to get used to the new system. Is it perfect on its own, no, but overall I’m very pleased.

Great close shave for the price, highly suggested!!
Very good, close shave for the price. Wet/dry easy cleaning is super convenient. Battery lasts substantial amount of time. Charges fairly quick. Wish the entire head came off for safer transportation but I've traveled with it internationally and it holds up well. Feels good/solid in the hand. Veryyy close shave, sometimes my "5 o'clock shadow" doesn't show up until the next night. Highly suggested to all. Great value.

Great razor
This is not like the one I replaced. The shave is blade close, fast and not burns. The battery life is amazing at close to a month on a charge.

Close enough
Have been using for 60 days now. This shaver does a good job. Of course, it is not as close a shave as one gets with a manual razor, but for an electric/battery shaver it does quite well.

Nice but the motor is slow
Stays charged for a long time. This is my 2nd shaver from this company. The first shaver sounded faster or more powerful then this one. I’m hoping this one last for 2 years or more.
