Easy install if you do it right.
Both my son and my chair are about 3 years old now and will sink. Saw a few videos online about replacing it yourself and was discouraged by the amount of work and tools they took to do the job. Then I found one video that wasn't as popular that noted that all standard chairs are identical with respect to the installation of the lift cylinder. It's only a tight fit and they are all the same width.Following those very basic instructions I flipped the chair upside down and twisted the top of the old cylinder with a pipe wrench and it came right out. Did the same at the base and was done with removal in under a minute. puting the new one in was even easier -- just slide it into the vacated bottom and top holes and flip it back over then sit down hard. done. Now I have two perfectly working chairs. Holds its height and goes up and down smoothly. Very quick and easy installation -- if you don't own a large pipe wrench borrow one from a neighbor. The height is the only thing you have to match. I got this one because it was about an inch longer than the originals and my son and I are tall.

Works exactly according to the specs
I bought this as a replacement center lift cylinder for an office chair I recently purchased. And while I love the chair itself (very comfortable and well made) its only flaw was that it didn't go up high enough for me (at its highest level it was at approximately 17", which was way too low for me.)So I bought this replacement cylinder, it fit perfectly, was easy enough to install, has a much wider range of height capability and in general, it works GREAT!I would highly recommend this.

Made an OK Chair Height - Perfect!
I bought this big and tall chair from Amazon and it wasn't quite tall enough. With this taller lift cylinder it's perfect for this 6'-3" tall - long legged person. The kit for changing it worked perfectly - I forgot to put the telescoping sleeve on the first time, it was easy to disassemble and put the sleeve on then assemble. Excellent kit and value.

Okay in the down position
If you have a gaming chair with a high weight rating, the ram has failed, you feel like you got the shaft? Then this one will work for you in the DOWN position. The ram is tall enough to replace a standard ram in the extended lift position without actually using the lift. When I brought it up (Chair extended) after install, my feet were barely touching the floor and I am 6 foot tall. So, I never have to worry about bottoming out again since I don't need to use the ram to lift me up anymore. This one is tall enough without using the gas lift assist. And my reclining features still work as well. I never have to worry about gas failure again! Because I will NOT have to use this feature with this ram. Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Works as advertised. The 8" cylinder is a bit too tall for me, at 6' 2" tall.
Works as advertised. Pops right in to an office chair base, just like any other gas cylinder. I have one issue, and this is my bad. I'm 6' 2" tall. I assumed the 8" cylinder was for me. Nope. At its lowest setting, it's just a bit too tall for my comfort. So hopefully this helps you pick the appropriate cylinder for you.

Garbage
Bought this back in August. Seemed to work well so I bought a second one for another chair. Welp, after only a couple of months this first one has stopped working. It no longer keeps the chair up - constantly drops. I bought this because it was heavy duty and supposed to support a lot more weight than what I weigh. Too late to return it, of course. I use this chair everyday. I will try a different brand (though I think all of these are made at the same factory and sold to different companies). However, first I am going to try to get it out of the base attached to the bottom of the chair. I never could remove the original one (from either chair), no matter how many videos I watched, and how easy they said it was, and trying several different ways it was suggested to have it easily pop out of the base. I ended up having had to buy a whole new bottom piece for both chairs as well. I am now concerned the second one will fail too. I don't use that chair as much (it's in the basement with my craft area) so we'll see. If I can't get it out of the base I'm not sure what I'll do. Buying a new chair would probably be cheaper than constantly having to replace these faulty, poorly made pieces.

Nice product for replacing chair shock.
Removing the old shock was fairly painful but that was not this products fault. That said the shock installed easy and made my chair usable again. I am a 6'3 and most chairs come with a shorter shocks which has me always extending it to its highest position to sit comfortable, now with the larger shock i use the middle range of the shock which has been fantastic. (Eliminated hip pain I was experiencing from a low chair position.)

5* despite not liking it details below
I needed a replacement cylinder for my older chair but was having a hard time even removing it. First off the tool worked lovely and was infinitely easier then whatever I was doing. My only real complaint is the replacement cylinder it comes with is REALLY high. Like if I put it all the way up I have to actually jump to get on my chair. If I put it all the way down my chair still doesn't fit under my desk. So now I have a working cylinder put I have to sit an extra foot away from my desk, I guess you can't have it all. It was easy to install (and uninstall my old one) 5* there, if you need a cylinder this high it's probably a 5* for you there also. As far as comfort goes I have to rate it a 1* for ME PERSONALLY because I'm gonna have to replace this cylinder it's WAY TOO HIGH. If you're looking for something that goes high though this is the cylinder for you. The tool is also pretty priceless lol
