Can this be hardwired to router? Need WiFi on opposite side of concrete wall and would run cable through wall to connect to this.

I just had a client buy three of these to extend their current WiFi network at a Behavioral center and it works as advertised even in "Access Point" or in other words "Bridged Mode," for the seamless wifi. So that means we connected a Cat5e ethernet cable from the main router, to this product and that is the way it extends the current wifi.

Downside (and Upside depending on how you look at it) is that for Smart Connect to be enabled, all three networks 2.4GHZ, 5Ghz (1700mbps) and 5Ghz (800mbps) must be the same SSID and password. I would not deploy this into a business larger than a small business as this product is design for home usage. If you are deploying for an enterprise setting, I would stick to Aerohive.

Otherwise, whether you are extending via WiFi, or via Cat5e ethernet at home or for a small business, this is a great product!

How far away from the router can you place this device?

I am sorry that people are not answering your question correctly (1 router and CAT5 cable answers do not address your question).  This is a wireless device, so it does not require a wired connection (it can have wired but not required).  Depending on what obstacles are between this extender and your router, this extender may be able to be 100 feet to 150 away from your router.  Wireless N range is approx 160 feet.  The wireless AC is 5 GHz and 5GHz does not achieve the same distance as 2.4 GHz.  5GHz can sometimes connect at greater distances (100 feet maybe) but speed is greatly decreased.  This extender creates a dedicated connection to the router, so that Fastlane feature may enable greater distances. I have not tested mine for max distance. If I have time to test, I will update my answer.

The range is very good. I have a home that's 2100 sq feet, I get great WiFi in all areas of my home and I have a shop that is 130 feet from the house and I receive WiFi there also.
