This lantern also has an extra bonus: You can charge AA rechargeables in the base of this lantern. They and the internal rechargeable battery are wired in parallel so the voltage of the internal battery, the solar panel, and the batteries you put into it will try to equalize. This is good if the internal battery is topped off and you want to very slowly trickle charge some NiCads or NiMh batteries with the solar panel.
