I really enjoyed this series. It kept me guessing until the end. The plot is well written, and the character well developed. Definitely recommended.

A compelling, suspenseful read......
The Third Grave by Lisa JacksonIn the fourth installment of the Savannah Series, Nikki is investigating the disappearance of three young girls almost twenty years ago. As she dives deep into her investigation more people end up dead, the suspect list grows, her life is in danger. (She is) also facing personal problems in her home life (marriage). The story moves at a steady pace leading up to a surprise ending. Although some parts I figured out, and did not like one particular event (I do not do spoilers), I was still engrossed enough to see it to the end. I recommend The Third Grave to Lisa Jackson fans and feel those who like a murder mysteries will enjoy it as well.

Decent read
I enjoyed the story. Quite a bit of action and suspense. Not a bad way to wrap up a storyline.

I would strangle NG R!
Great book, never a dull moment even if I was mad at Nikki most of the time - how dare she! Ok, that said, will we get a Part 2::: with a baby or 2? This story could go on…inheriting money, saving the place, making it a home for lost kids…just saying!

Good read
It was fast paced, characters had their flaws and I couldn't guess the ending. What more could you want?I would recommend it.

Meh!
Good overall but nothing special. After bulldozing through as many Freida McFadden books ad I can afford to buy, it's hard to enjoy many other suspense/thriller/mystery works!

I really liked it-. interesting and different
I’ve read many of Lisa Jackson’s books and loved them.Haven’t read any in a while but I saw this and grabbed it- looked new, different, and intriguing.Well.. it was, it is. I really enjoyed this story once I got into it- which I remember from other Lisa Jackson’s mysteries. Her characters are always very good in my opinion- and I’m no newcomer to mysteries, police procedurals or crime stories! I usually love the characters and miss them afterwards ( or hate them and want to see them get their comeuppance!) and this was no different-in fact, I may have loved these characters and their milieu even more! The eerieness and tarnished beauty of old or ruined splendor appeals to me in itself and as a metaphor for family and personal memories, secrets and ongoing decrepitude. I really like Ms. Jackson’s sense of place and quite evocative descriptions of the particular area. Ms. Jackson had me feeling I was there in Georgia, the sultry heat with the lush “greeness” I remember. (Plus one of the most heartwarming and seductive of Southern pronunciations). ;-) ( one minor criticism- a Cat. 5 hurricane would have been a lot worse if it truly hit right there) I do *not* care for how the story was not-so-very interesting for quite a bit..until we are well into the book.. but as usual, when it takes off, it really does. It really did for me… and I couldn’t put it down. Just finished it and am sorry it’s over.

Not as great as Lisa Jackson books usually are
I didn't find this book as enjoyable as others by this author - as she is one of my favs. But, as other reviewers have mentioned, that was totally due to the character of Nikki. It's been a few years since I've read the previous novels in the series, so I don't remember if she was this bad in all the others. The fact that she was upset that Reed blamed her for his partners death???? She was totally responsible and should have been eaten up with guilt. Plus, because she was mad at Reed for telling her once again to stay away from his case and to be careful, she trips on the stairs and loses the baby. Her comment at some point was that she didn't think if she got pregnant again she'd have to be a hothouse flower. Yet, she says later on that she really wants a child - a family with Reed, but she can't even put the baby's welfare above her job before it's born. What the heck will she be like after?I can understand her being go-go-go and all about the story in the beginning of the series, but her relationship with Reed, especially over the course of three novels, should have caused some character growth so by the 4th book, you would have expected this part of her personality to have been toned down.Obviously, for the purposes of the mystery, Reed needed to be paired with a new partner. I'm just not a fan of the way Ms. Jackson set that up. Did the partner really need to die? And if so, couldn't it have been done a different way? Nikki losing the baby due to her stubornness about following a story would have been bad enough. But she should have at least learned something from it. It's like Ms. Jackson didn't care about the character anymore. But as a reader, I'm really invested in the love story part of romantic suspense - the connection with those characters as a couple - and that was really missing in this book. In just writing this review, I can think of several things she could have changed that would have made this part of the story more palatable. I mean - where was the editor here? Shouldn't they have come back with how unlikeable Nikki was being written? It wouldn't have taken a lot to change it.Having said all that, the writing was still top notch as was the mystery itself. I had just come off of reading 2 books written in first person narrative, where the writing was boring in my opinion, and one page into this book, I could already see the difference. Third person narration is still my favourite style to read, especially in a mystery where there is so much going on. This writing style allows the author to create a better overall atmosphere - one that draws you into the story. It paints a more vivid picture of everything as a whole and for me, as the reader, it draws me more deeply into the world the author has created. And that's what I'm looking for in a book. I want to feel like I'm friends with the characters - that I'd be part of their family.I definitely feel invested here in the mystery, and I connect with Reed. Just not with Nikki. So, if Ms. Jackson has any intentions of writing another novel in this series, she needs Nikki to have learned something from her actions in this book, and for her character to grow - not stay this stunted, selfish person.

Slow
The books in this series have interesting plots but are too slow and predictable.

A real page turner
I have enjoyed the previous books that I read by this author but really did not like the self centred "heroine" who always put her own needs first and justified it by stating that was just who she was.. The story was compelling and kept me guessing until the end.

Just okay
For the most part, the story was good. Nikki ticked me off at the beginning. She was stupid and careless for someone who was happy to be pregnant after having previous miscarriages. I typically enjoy this author but it's annoying when lead characters make poor decisions throughout and everything works out in the end.
