Very humane
I like that this is a catch and release trap. Sometimes a little intruder just needs to be relocated and this is the perfect way to get that accomplished. It's simple to bait and set and has a handle on top so you don't get bitten/scratched, then allows for easy release. Recommend!

BEST choice and price for large, destructive RATS!
It's been a long time coming this review, but it was entirely my fault. Since I was asked to write something about this cage, I have ordered two more. When I said it was my fault, it's because I had the first cage in a box the first few weeks I had it, and then I had it outside under a patio table for another few weeks without any success. I was using other methods catching small rodents, meanwhile the big ones were causing hundreds of dollars of damage indoors. Plus owning a senior cat, I was worried the other methods would harm her instead of those large ones I had in my pantry, and they were BIG. Final straw was when the big rat jumped over my head as I was washing dishes. It probably knew I was scared and it was taunting me. I told my friend who used to work in Alaska and she told me horror stories of how they multiplied so fast, and I knew I had to do something. I got the cage, followed the EASY instructions, and added bait. I worried it would be too smart or too big for the cage, but I did it. The cage had some rusted springs from it's stint outside, but as I tested it, it worked and the door securely locked. Two days passed, and I worried it would be a bust. I saw rat droppings, more damage including some electronic equipment. It had eaten through internet, computer and small appliance wires. I was getting depressed my problem would never be solved. Then on the 3rd day I noticed the door was down! In it was the biggest rat, almost the length of the cage!. It was hissing at me, squeaking, trying everything to get out. Biting, showing it's claws, it was nasty. It was trying it's last attempt at intimidation. It didn't work. My friend told me to put my big girl underwear on, and drown it. I just couldn't do it, so I threw the whole cage in a dumpster. Mistake. It had a friend and now I had no cage. So I ordered 2 more. Here is the summary of this review. It really works. I have caught 6 really BIG rats. This cage was the only rat trap that worked if you have big ones, 6"-8" and super fat from eating through boxes, thick plastic bottles, and aluminum containers of food in my pantry. I'm talking aggressive, ugly, vengeful pests. Once caught, the cages are sturdy and well made. They even give extra springs now for stronger door latches. Best part is the PRICE. They are the most reasonable for it's effectiveness. I bought an $80 trap. Useless. If you are desperate like I was, this really worked. I am a senior who lives alone. When the pandemic started I had to stock my pantry full of food and that's when it started. I just had to be brave and I have been using the 2 over, and over again. They are amazing. I would buy them again if needed, but they look like they'd last a long time. Thanks to Amazon and the sellers of this cage. They are the BEST! 5 stars definitely!

CATCHES LARGE PACK RATS
The first thing I did when I received the Trap, is to attach an old small Wheel Weight to the Bar that secures the door so that the bar will fall faster and the bar will stay in place better due to the weight, see Picture I also did this on some other Traps that I had to Make the door fall faster insuring the latch would catch better and it was successful. I place the Trap on a Flat Paver, see Picture. I caught a Rodent the first time I placed the Trap out but due to the narrow width of the trap, it is a bit unstable and with the weight and size of the animal it was able to turn the trap on it's side moving the bar that secures the door up and escape. I then decided to place a Grey block next to the side of the Trap making sure that it is not against the bar that secures the door as this piece needs to move freely or else it will not fall and secure the door and the Rodent will escape. Keep any thing that you place against the Side of the Trap 1" to 3" away behind where the Front door is. I have some old cheese that I put on the Trip hook and I smear a little Peanut Butter on it. I caught a Large Rat and I lifted the Trap by large Handle that is also used for keeping the door open and dropped it into a Garbage Can with a large amount of Water as I was trying to teach the Rat to swim but was unsuccessful. Releasing Rats in the wild is NOT A GOOD IDEA as they can return to where the were taken from. I have already had a few cars wiring destroyed by Rats and it is expensive to get the wire placed. I was also at a couple houses where the Rats got in the attic and chewed the Wiring. A Rat caused a Fire in one house. With a Rat and Mouse issue you cannot have a Bleeding Heart like some people who have posted Reviews, or else you will defeat the Purpose of securing your homes and valuables from damage.

Definitely works for squirrels
Product is generally sturdy, easy to use and definitely works.Bought the trap because chipmunks and squirrels constantly come up on my deck to get at my bird feeder. I was most concerned with the chipmunks because they keep digging burrows in my yard and ruining my grass.Found some tips online for different baits, but no matter what I use (nuts, fruits, peanut butter), I haven’t been able to catch a chipmunk. They seem to be too smart to go into the trap. They’ll get to the door, look in, but then walk away. However, I’ve caught 3 squirrels in just a few days, so I’ve been able to release them in a wooded area far enough away from the house that I know they won’t be back. The Good:• Easy to use• Inexpensive• Definitely works (at least for capturing squirrels). The bad:• Already had to replace the springs once and the new set is already damaged. The first squirrel I caught was in the trap for about 15 minutes before I could release him. Meanwhile, he had chewed on the springs and pulled one of them off. The spring was a little damaged, but after I released him I used pliers to reattach it. The second squirrel did the same thing but this time he broke both springs and in fact when I finally got out to release him I couldn’t even find the springs – not sure but think he may have possibly ingested them. Went to the store and bought replacement springs, and the third squirrel I caught started chewing on the new springs. He didn’t break them but did warp them a little.• The squirrels clearly don’t like to be caged so each time I’ve caught one the first thing they seem to do is defecate. So you need to be careful when transporting the cage to release the animal because it can get messy and smelly.
