How long does it take to fully charge a controller on this dock?

5-6 hours from a fully depleted state to a full charge.

Is this really needed? i know when the switch is docked it charges the joy-cons so i really don't see the point.

Yes it is needed, and you are not the judge to determine what is and is not needed. My switch is docked and it cannot be removed from the holder every time the controllers need charging.

How much amps are required for this charger?

.5A (USB 2.0). We always recommend plugging into the switch dock to ensure proper function.

I believe that this is a place holder. When I pre-ordered it before it said 3/3. The release date on other sites have it listed as 3/3 as well.
