In a cooler yes, however I would still put them in a ziploc bag. Also I wouldn't put them in the freezer.

It needs cooling before usage. According to my experience, it does not last long in lots of sweating physical activity. It depends on every different case. it last enogh around 30 mins for light walking. Our body change into hot boiler after hard activity.

Q: How do you wash them ?

I rinse them in the bathroom sink and it works well. You wouldn't want to machine wash as they're not made that well and the gel beads would inflate in the washer.
