Feel-good, quality good, price good, size good for switch from SPD to flat-pedals after urban riding
I switched form SPDs to flat pedals after years of commuting on SPDs. I got these after trying a pair of 5/10s for flat pedals. These Shimanos feel lots better than the 5/10s and are so good for walking I usually do post-ride cooldown walk in them. They go on easily and the men’s 8.5 - 9 size fit my EU size 42.5 -43 feet just right. The Velcro strap closure works well, though I’m used to ratcheted straps. The build quality is as good as higher-priced shoes I’ve used. The pair I received din not include a set of SPD cleats — no problem I;m off SPDs anyhow. The relatively hard sole is a little slick in wet weather; and the SPD holes are NOT sealed for wet riding. Great feeling shoes. I like their plan (rather than flashy) look. Often keep them on after rides….

Need to buy clips separately
I like the shoes, but was frustrated to learn clips don’t come with the shoes. I was ready to wear them to a spin class the evening they arrived and then, disappointedly, unable to use them. I just ordered clips separately.

I wear these 4+ times per week… great shoes!
Comfortable & effective. I do not notice them, I notice only the bike.It might be nice if the clips didn’t strike the floor when I walk, but most cleats will do that. I have no real complaints.

Good product... narrow toe box
I really like these shoes... they are great for the price... only thing I will point out is that it has a narrow toe box... so if you have wide feet, your toes will be cramped.Otherwise, I love how easy they are to get on and off with a very simple but effective velcro closure

As they say, size matters (shape, too)
I normally wear size 41, but upon reading common reviews to size up, I ordered a 42. The fit felt great at first--not too constricting with room for my toes to swell (as they tend to). I've had them for about a month and have done numerous short rides and three centuries in them. The shorter rides aren't too bad, but on the 2nd century, my three middle toes on my right foot went numb and still feel a little numb weeks later. I tried adjusting the cleats every 30-50 miles to find a sweet spot of relief. The position of the cleats didn't matter and I continued having issues.I looked more closely at the shape of the shoe and I'm realizing that my foot is shaped differently--the widest part of my feet don't line up with the widest part of the shoe. Forcing my feet in this new shape is causing the cutting off of circulation in my middle toes because my baby toe and big toe are being pushed closer together. The ventilation isn't great either. I've had to take additional stops on the long rides to just take the shoes off because my feet were getting too hot.I recommend measuring and even tracing your foot then matching the outline with the insole of the shoe so you can see if its going to be a good fit and avoid the same potential nerve damage issues I had.

Value + function > Style
The MX-1 is a low cost, no frills shoe.Looks: Not so much. These shoes look like a cross between bedroom slippers and gardening clogs. Style is not the strong suit. That said, they're great for beginners, casual cyclists on a budget, and for those with wider feet.Sizing: I wear a 12.5 US, and typically al 46 or 47 in European shoes. When I measured my feet with a Sidi sizing tool at the local bike shop, my toes landed between the 46 and 47 mark, my instep between 45 and 46 as shown. Width is between E and EE, slightly wider than "normal". Selecting a 12.5 men's in the MX-1 brought a shoe marked as 48 European. The is pretty close to perfect for my feet. Toes have just a tiny bit of space, heel is not loose, and my instep is snug but not pinched. I've only done about 50Km in them so far, and they've been comfortable. The only exception is that I have thick, tall toes and my big toenails are pushed down a bit. I don't think the plastic front will stretch much, so this may be a problem.Potential drawbacks: Serious cyclists might not like all the elastic on top, and probably will be disappointed by the lack of "tuneability" in the single Y strap. Those who ride in weather will get wet socks from the elastic cloth and perforations.Summary: I bought these as a backup to my old trusted Sidis, and for the money I think they're just fine.

Order 2 sizes up
I wear a men’s size 13 so I ordered a 13…. If you have a “Sasquatch Foot” these cycling shoes are not for you, they are made for Ballerinas with narrow feet…. Don’t waste your money!
