## Description

From the manufacturer

Review: Finally getting the speeds I pay for - Well worth the investment - Pros: - Dramatic improvement in speed test results and reliability. - Great coverage: my WiFi now feels fast and I’m finally getting close to the advertised speeds I pay for. - The app lets you choose a preferred mesh for devices to connect to, shows signal strength to each device, and download/upload speeds in kbps. - Fairly easy to set up. It may take a while depending on how awkward your WiFi provider/router is, how much you want to test for optimal positions, and the time taken to familiarise yourself with the detail-heavy app and its settings. For some, it will be almost plug and play. - Lots of settings so you can make personalised choices. There’s a huge amount of functionality, right down to being able to turn the light off on the mesh. - Lovely, premium design. - Lots of Ethernet ports. Cons: - I wish there were clearer guidance during setup on testing for optimal placement, or even a mode to help find the best signal. I spent around an hour deciding whether to put the router in a room with important WiFi-heavy devices (showing a medium 2-bar signal strength) or in the hallway outside (showing a strong 3-bar signal but further away from those devices). For me, the stronger hallway position won. - The light colours can initially be confusing in terms of what they mean or indicate during setup. Worth noting: - If you try to name the new network the same SSID as your existing one during setup, it asks you to rename the mesh to something different, which feels counterintuitive if you want devices to switch over smoothly. It doesn’t explain that you can rename it back later after you’ve turned 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi off on the original router. Overall: - Yes, it’s an expensive investment, but in my view it’s better than paying more every month for “faster” WiFi that you might never get the true benefit of once you’re a bit further away from the router.
Review: Easy setup and excellent whole-home coverage - I bought this because my previous Gigaclear Linksys mesh WiFi setup kept dropping connection, which was getting frustrating. I wanted something more reliable that would give good coverage around the whole house without needing constant attention. Setup was really easy and didn’t take long. I’m already familiar with the Deco app and fairly comfortable with tech, so I found the process straightforward. The main thing I noticed was how much more stable the connection has been compared with the system it replaced. What I liked: - Very easy to set up through the Deco app - The connection has been much more reliable so far - The dedicated 2.4GHz IoT network is really useful for smart home devices - It works seamlessly with my older Deco M5 mesh kit, so I now have excellent whole-home coverage - I’m already a big fan of the TP-Link WiFi and smart home ecosystem, and this fits into it nicely What could be better: - No real downsides so far. Overall, I’ve been really impressed with the Deco X55. It has been a big improvement over my previous mesh system and has given me much more reliable coverage around the house. I’d recommend it if you want a strong, easy-to-manage mesh WiFi system, especially if you already use TP-Link or Deco products.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do these act like a router or are they more like an access point? i have a 4gee home router and the wi-fi is non-standard causing issues.**
A: You can switch the Deco into 'access point mode', so your existing router does all the jobs of a 'router' such as DHCP, DNS, port-forwarding etc

Or you can switch your Deco into router mode (the default I think) which means it does the usual router jobs of DHCP, port-forwarding etc. If you do this, then your existing router should be switched into "bridge mode" or "modem mode". That will disable all its normal router functions & it simply performs the job of connecting your main Deco to your ISPs internet service (ie. a dumb modem). Your main Deco is then the 'router' for your home network.

**Q: Do all 3 mesh hubs have ethernet ports?**
A: Correct all the units have Etherley ports. I use them on my 2nd satellite point upstairs to hardwire to my desktop. Works a treat.

**Q: will these work with 2.4GHz only equipment**
A: Yes they have both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. In our house, laptops and phones etc connect to the higher bandwidth and smart plugs etc on the lower one automatically

**Q: Does the tp-link deco x20 have any lights on them? i would like to put one in a bedroom**
A: Yes there is a light to show the connected status. But this can be turned off in the settings, or even turned off just at night (night mode)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing wifi boosters
*by C***S on 8 June 2026*

Easy to follow instructions on the app, it did take a few goes to get connected but once connected I can honestly say all the 'wifi dead spots' in our house where gone. We have the main one plugged into the router then the other 2 upstairs opposite ends of the house. We now have a strong WiFi signal everywhere in the house. Whilst they are pricey, I would say definitely worth the money, its a one off cost and no subscription required. If you're getting wifi dead spots in your home, these are definitely worth the money and do the job perfect. We have multiple devices connected all at the same time and in use and nothing is compromised.
