24 Gauge, 925 Sterling Silver Wire (Half Round) Half Hard Made in USA - 25FT by CRAFT WIRE

Many years ago when I first started making jewelry and then when I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA) in metal smithing, when you ordered 20 gauge of any shape of wire it measured 20 gauge on a gauge tool. After I ordered and received this wire I discovered that it was very small in thickness and width. I measured it on my gauge meter and it was a little more than half the thickness of a 20-gauge round wire. It seems that today's standards have changed when you buy a 20-gauge half-round wire it is a lot less than 20-gauge. Since it is a half-round wire the gauge measure is based on the thickness of a 20-gauge round wire cut in half. The Craft Wire Company isn't the only one following this new standard, but this new standard defies measuring it by gauge. I ordered a 12-gauge half-round wire from another company and it is about the same size as what 20-gauge used to be. Just be aware that when it comes to half-round silver 20-gauge isn't really 20-gauge.

For 4.5 grams of sterling at price of 999 1ozt bullion is ridiculous. You can also get an 18 2mm rope chain for the same price. Save your money and buy your own equipment to manufactur your own .925 wire in large quantities and make jewelry a LOT cheaper in the long haul. Not worth it!

I bought this thinking it was sterling silver not silver plated, but when it was heated it became a brass color and the silver faded away. no cloth will bring the silver color back.

I’m pretty sure I did not get 16 gauge silver wire. It’s more like 18 gauge. And once I cut it I can’t return.

I'm sure that this product has many applications. It was my fault but I did not check the width close enough. Needed a wider width and I really like pure silver better but it did arrive really fast. Thanks
