EASY to assemble. Easy to install, came with ?? Extra parts.
These are as described, sturdy and came with some extra unexpected parts that you need to guess their use. They were really easy to assemble and all eight (two cars, two kayaks, two sets ordered) were done in less than an hour, on my couch, with a 1/2โ deep ratcheting socket (not two hours in my fully equipped shopโฆ.) one note: you donโt need to put the rubber box on further than the three holes. Line it up and shove in the larger bars and line them up and adjust as necessary. That minimizes the force needed to move the box back to the first set of holes. We have a 2022 Santa Cruz and 2023 Tucson with OEM Thule/Hyundai cross-bars. They are teardrop shape and aside from learning to install the front nuts first, they are easy enough to install on the cars. Extra parts: each package contains 8 stick-on foam pads that go on the bar-side of the metal plates to add friction and stability in contact with the cross bars. This step wasnโt in the minimal instructions but Each package comes with four locking rope pulley hooks that I assume are for bow and stern tie-downs but that wasnโt in the instructions. Each package also comes with four loop handles, which I assume are bow and stern carry handles for your boats but that also wasnโt in the instructions. I wouldโve only given four stars because of the instructions being so vague but then I would add another star because the motorcycle straps come with a padded latch so they donโt rub metal against your boats. โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ Note: be mindful if you have a sunroof that lifts outโฆ. Will update when we are able to get boats on them and do some driving.

Solid Racks That Get the Job Done
I was a little skeptical when ordering these since the price was lower than some of the name brands, but honestly, theyโve exceeded my expectations. Installation was straightforward, and everything needed came in the boxโincluding the tie-down straps and ratchets. The racks themselves feel sturdy and well-made. Once mounted on our crossbars, they held our kayaks securely during a long drive without any shifting or wobbling. The padding on the bars is a nice touch and keeps the kayak from getting scratched or dented. The included straps were also surprisingly decent qualityโI didnโt feel the need to replace them right away like I usually do with bundled gear. We've now used them a handful of times for local trips and a longer road trip, and theyโve held up really well. The kayaks sit snugly, and weโve had no issues with slippage or damage. If youโre looking for a reliable set of J-bars without spending a fortune, these are a great choice. Easy to install, solid on the road, and they do exactly what you need them to do.

Works great and is well made
I've only taken out the kayak once with this but so far it seems solid and well built. The assembly wasn't overly complicated but it has this rubber component that is a little challenging to get the bars slotted into. I would suggest adding a rubber hammer to the instructions, if I didn't have decades of IKEA assembly experience I would have really struggled. Also attaching it to the car wasn't the easiest with the wrench they provided I would recommend to use a 1/2 inch ratchet wrench for most of the assembly but then use a flat wrench for putting it on the car, made life WAY easier. On the instructions the wrench size listed is wrong so play around with it until you find the right size for me it was 1/2 inch but I don't know if that is standard or not. Also the big black "easy on bolt' is the bolt you use first it wasn't listed in the instructions, it wasn't until I read further that it called out the other type of bolt that is used in the assembly that I was able to figure it out through process of elimination. The front and rear tie down straps are awesome and felt like they really held the kayak in pace however the blue traps I didn't feel were as solid so I plan to swap them out for heavier duty cam straps. All in all though really happy with the purchase.

Good Deal on this Kayak Rack
This is a well made, nicely finished and priced Kayak Rack kit. As configured out of the box, it may not work for thicker height crossbars on some truck racks because the 8mm carriage bolts supplied are too short (about 2-1/2 inches). I retro fitted mine with 5/16-18, 4 inch long carriage bolts (3-1/2 length would have worked too) to fit the crossbar (approx. 1-3/4 H, 2-3/4 W) on my Vevor branded adjustable height truck rack, which is thicker 'height-wise' than most car rooftop crossbars. The 8mm nuts inside the plastic T-handle wings can be pressed out and replaced with 5/16-18 nuts if you want to reuse them. 5/16-18 nuts are typically 1/2 inch across the flats and might be a little loose inside the T-wings, the 8mm nuts being a little wider across the flats, but a little silicon or glue should secure them. As a sidetone, I could not find any 8 mm carriage bolts locally that were long enough, thus the change. In summary, the ratcheting hook straps supplied work great and the other pull straps included make this a nicely supplied kit.

Fit great!
Just what we needed! After recently purchasing two kayaks, we needed racks for our Honda Pilot (21') to transport. After reading numerous reviews, we settled on these, and we're so glad we did. Easy to prepare for installation, and install without too much work. Overall, it is a little time consuming, but not difficult. Would highly recommend.

If price is important and you have mechanical ability, strong hands and and patience. This works.
I have not yet carried a kayak with this yet but it seems as though it will work fine and seems sturdy after assembly. Comes with (vehicle to kayak) anchor and (kayak to rack) tie down straps. The racks are packed well but the packing list is for one single kayak rack only. The instructions are vague but if you get out a magnifying glass the pictures are okay. The wrenches they supply would be good if you were stranded on a desert island soo...You will want a decent 13mm wrench and a deep well socket wrench would be MUCH easier, a small mallet or hammer and some slippery silicone spray might help too. The bars going thru the black plastic couplings/friction pads is the toughest part and require good hand strength. My advice to you is to use silicone or maybe WD40 to lube up inside plastic part to make sliding everything together easier. The plastic is very rigid and maybe a hair dryer can be used on plastic to soften and may help that problem. The goal is holes must line up really well. A screwdriver stuck through the holes that are close might work for some to achieve alignment. Hammer is used to tap the plastic only to move just a little. Square part of carriage bolt must be aligned carefully when inserting in hole. Put only one together and make sure it will work on your cargo rack before doing all of them. These worked on my 2013 Rav 4 but check yours. Comes with extra parts that could be used to adjust somewhat if need be. I saved a buck, good luck and pass the Advil.

Very difficult to assemble, bolts are too short for common crossbars
I just finished assembling the two kayak carriers (with two holders for each kayak). This SHOULD have been an easy assembly job, but it was not. A 15-30 minute job took almost 2 hours in my fully equipped shop. The problem is the really poor fit of the molded plastic saddles that fit between the upper and lower tube pieces. The holes are in slight misalignment (1/16" to 1/8") with the holes in the steel tubes. For the first three holders, I used a mallet to hammer the carriage bolts through the assembly, shaving off the plastic in the smaller hole. For about half of these, the tight plastic kept the square shank of the carriage bolt from mating with the square hole in the tube, which allowed the bolt to spin when installing the nut. I had to align these carefully and then hammer the head of the carriage bolt to get it to mate. For the last holder, I bored out the plastic holes with a power drill before assembly which made it a little easier to assemble. It is funny that the kit comes with a tiny, stamped 13mm wrench to tighten the nylon lock nuts. I think this would be quite impossible. After they are fully assembled, the holders seem very sturdy. I have not yet mounted them on my rack or carried a kayak in them, but my impression is that they would do a good job (hence the 3 stars rather than fewer). I do recommend using the nylock nuts for mounting on the vehicle, rather than the plastic knobs that are also provided. I think the plastic knobs could easily vibrate off. If you choose to use the plastic knobs (for easier attachment and removal), I recommend using a lock washer (not provided). They do provide extra nylock nuts. Update: I got a new vehicle and was forced to buy a new set of crossbars to fit the new vehicle. The screws on this kayak rack are too short to fit the new crossbar, which are Thule Evo Wingbars. I ordered some new 8mm carriage bolts only to find out that the bolts on the carrier feature a smaller than normal head diameter. I am stuck with these useless kayak carriers unless I grind down the heads of each of the standard carriage bolts. I am reducing this review to one star as a result.
