Solid Racks That Get the Job Done
I was a little skeptical when ordering these since the price was lower than some of the name brands, but honestly, they’ve exceeded my expectations. Installation was straightforward, and everything needed came in the box—including the tie-down straps and ratchets. The racks themselves feel sturdy and well-made. Once mounted on our crossbars, they held our kayaks securely during a long drive without any shifting or wobbling. The padding on the bars is a nice touch and keeps the kayak from getting scratched or dented. The included straps were also surprisingly decent quality—I didn’t feel the need to replace them right away like I usually do with bundled gear. We've now used them a handful of times for local trips and a longer road trip, and they’ve held up really well. The kayaks sit snugly, and we’ve had no issues with slippage or damage. If you’re looking for a reliable set of J-bars without spending a fortune, these are a great choice. Easy to install, solid on the road, and they do exactly what you need them to do.

Great!
These racks worked very well! Easy but tedious construction. However installing onto the vehicle was easy and no damage done to the vehicle. Held down the kayaks well and didn’t budge an inch on the freeway at >70mph. With wind. I didn’t use the straps however that came with these so not sure about those. Overall for the function, stability and appearance, great product! Vehicle is a ‘23 RAV4 for reference.

Good racks, difficult installation
My wife and I recently came into possession of some kayaks that a family member was getting rid of. I had wanted some kayak racks that were fairly cheap but sturdy and were able to be mounted on a cross bar on my wife's SUV. These came in pieces in the box and were fairly easy to install and put together. However when it came to installing these on the cross bar, it was very annoying to put together. The hand nuts were very obnoxious to tighten down while holding the kayak racks in place. Initially, I had to tighten them all a little bit and then slide the rack into place. My hands became very tired quickly after just installing the first one... It took me roughly an hour to install all 4 of the kayak racks on the crossbar. I think later on I will replace the handnuts with something more substantial and easier to remove with a tool. All in all the whole thing was held together and served its purpose when we went to retrieve the kayaks. The straps that come with it are worthless though, won't tighten for anything, so get yourself some self ratcheting straps.

Good Deal on this Kayak Rack
This is a well made, nicely finished and priced Kayak Rack kit. As configured out of the box, it may not work for thicker height crossbars on some truck racks because the 8mm carriage bolts supplied are too short (about 2-1/2 inches). I retro fitted mine with 5/16-18, 4 inch long carriage bolts (3-1/2 length would have worked too) to fit the crossbar (approx. 1-3/4 H, 2-3/4 W) on my Vevor branded adjustable height truck rack, which is thicker 'height-wise' than most car rooftop crossbars. The 8mm nuts inside the plastic T-handle wings can be pressed out and replaced with 5/16-18 nuts if you want to reuse them. 5/16-18 nuts are typically 1/2 inch across the flats and might be a little loose inside the T-wings, the 8mm nuts being a little wider across the flats, but a little silicon or glue should secure them. As a sidetone, I could not find any 8 mm carriage bolts locally that were long enough, thus the change. In summary, the ratcheting hook straps supplied work great and the other pull straps included make this a nicely supplied kit.

Good price for a good product
Worked great. Pretty easy to put on. Directions were not that good, but the product is.

BEWARE: Nuts prone to loosen while driving.
Looking at this product, I was amazed at the cost for a 2 rack set with accessories and the amazing reviews. I ordered this item the first week of May 2021. Buyer beware that, as one other reviewer mentioned, the nuts used to secure the racks to the cross bars may come loose while driving. They are not locking nuts, and they definitely should be. My first use of these racks was to transport a pair of brand new 12 foot sit-on-top Kayaks from a local dealer to my home. This short trip of about 20 miles with some Interstate Highway driving was fine, no issues. My second time was to carry on 12' sit-on-top kayak and an Aqualilly float pad on lake vacation about 500 miles from home. The trip to the destination was mostly uneventful. I made a practice of check how secure everything was at each stop we made. There were no major issues, only minor adjustments to the blue straps securing both items. On the return trip, about 400 miles from home, the rear rack holding my kayak came loose. The rack was able to slide back and forth on the cross bar, and eventually a nut came completely off while driving at 65-70 miles an hour. I heard the sound of rack sliding and immediately began to slow down while I watched the big black nut fly away and bounce off the road almost hitting the car behind me. I also believe that somehow, one of the blue straps managed to break off a foot rest from the kayak, as when we got home it was gone. I was able re-tighten all the remaining nuts, move a nut from the lillypad's rack to the kayak's rack and adjust the blue straps such that the lillypad's rack was held as secure as possible with out the 4th nut. I didn't think to photo document the issues in the midst of everything, I wish I would have. We continued our trip home stopping about every hour to re-check and re-secure everything on the roof. Unfortunately, this item is now past it's return window. I have contacted the Mrhardware for replacement parts, but I do not hold much hope for a positive outcome. I will disassemble the rack and take a bolt to the a hardware store and attempt to find locking nuts to replace the nuts provided by the seller.
