Q: If i already have a lcd projector, can i just buy the software separately?

Yes, actually your probably better off, as the only thing that came with this additional to a basic projector was the window covering sheet, & the SD Card with Images & movies. Actually I intend to return mine to buy an upgraded projector.

Q: how to upload new images and can it be used with dvd

You can get low profile 16Gb USB sticks here on Amazon for around $10. You will never need that much space for a single projector. I'v got 2 projectors and often change up the scenes. Super simple. Also, I highly recommend you check out AtmosFX website. They have several FAQ pages with great information for getting started.

Sure, the projector has an HDMI input.
