The History of Theological Education

As with other works by Gonzelez, "History of Theological Education" was informed and informative while remaining digestable and reader friendly. For the price, I wish the book had been longer and more detailed, utilizing more specifics in the discussion of developing Christian education/practices. For the price, other works are more readily recommended and detailed though, again, Gonzalez has the ability to synthesize centuries of tedious information into a readable format. Compared to his other works, this was disappointing, but taken on its own merits, it is still a solid weekend read and I enjoyed it.

Good overview of the history of theological education and ideas for its future. I appreciated the author’s combination of realism and optimism related to the current challenges of institutional theological education. Additionally, I appreciated the author’s exploration of the ultimate purpose and scope of theological education.

This is one of the most valuable studies recently published about a timely subject. The author's unique ability to comprise a vast amount of information in a readable form open to all audiences without compromising scholarly endeavors is commendable. This is one book necessary for today's discussion about theological education at a time of financial and paradigm crisis. I recommend it to all interested people wholeheartedly.

Very useful, excellently written and concise history of theological education spanning many centuries.

It was a helpful review of history with a strong proposal at the end about our theological education future.
