I trust Katsura to provide straight, high quality blade blanks, and this model is no exception. The steel and temper is top quality, and the new handle design is very sleek. Hamon line easy to see and very straight. This version is a little more difficult to measure and fit, but the end result is perfectly balanced and beautiful. I went for a blue and white acrylic for this piece. Always impressed with the beautiful mosaic pin supplied with each kit.New for 2022 is the honing steel, which is a nice touch if you are making a whole line of custom pieces. This thing puts a wicked edge on your knives, and is more a sharpener than a honing steel. The handle leaves you room for both full coverage, and a lanyard-hole style relieved spot - pretty slick when all finished up!

Quality from top to bottom. . This is my second knife working project, the other was their paring knife woodworking project, that turned out pretty well for my first attempt at putting together a knife. The packaging is first rate and reminds me of something you might see in a jewelry store. The knife itself comes polished with a decently sharp edge. The pins that are included are aluminum that lock together for a snug fit. It comes with a beautiful decorative brass pin the is filled with copper and some kind of colored ceramic/glass. Use caution with the decorative pin, I’ve heard horror stories of people hammering the pin and ruining the appearance. I used a metal file to finish it. I’ve bought knives from other sellers and been disappointed in the quality and finish of the knife. I recommend spending a little more on one of these knives and getting a great product, instead of saving a little cash and being disappointed in the end result.

Great kit to make the scales on your own. I used walnut on mine. I had to send one back as the tang had a pretty good bend. But Amazon sent a new one right away. The knife is great and SHARP right out of the box. Makes a great gift.

This was awesome, looked great, I’ve never made a knife before so I bought this blank. It turned out looking awesome. I didn’t have the patience to figure out the rivets so I just used standard pins. The mosaic pin looks awesome. I wish I had a drill press as it would have turned out better but I was very happy with it and as soon as I finished it I took it inside and cut a tri tip like butter. Super sharp and the box looks great. I bought two more immediately after I finished it!

This is my second knife from Katsura and I have already put some friends onto their beautful blades. The blade is very sharp out of the box and will make a great gift or for personal use. I plan on buying the set of 8 soon for myself and continue to gift others blades from Katsura as well.

This is a nice knife kit, and comes with all the parts you need and a nice, presentable box. However, the quality of the blade itself is not very good. In the kit I received, the blade was warped and the tang was not straight. There's really no way to fix this yourself without re-heat treating.Unfortunately I didn't notice the blade warp until after I'd finished the handle, so returning was not really an option. The tang not being straight is not a huge problem - you can grind that out or fill gaps with epoxy. It is annoying, though.

I bought this for my granddaughter for Christmas. I put a real nice walnut handle and brass spacers on it. The included pins are very nice. The mosaic pin is even better. The blade is a San mai constructed blade. The cutting edge holds an edge very well. High quality steel.

Kit came with everything you need and the full tang made it easy to finish. Rivets have big enough head for sanding and the steel feels decent. Kinda small but if that's the knife you want then this kit makes it easy. Great to have a gift box included so you can package it just like it was delivered but with your handle on it.
