MNEMONIC Cold Storage Wallet for Cryptocurrency

Ignorance is the issue with the smattering of negative reviews here, NOT any fault of the product. Let me dispel some of the misinformation:1. Yes, this IS compatible with your Trezor, your Ledger Nano S or your Keepkey. 96 tiles are all you need b/c you don't have to spell out each word in it's entirety...just 3-4 letters per word! (you use a spacer at end of 3-letter words)2. This is only meant to store your 24-WORD SEED. Not BTC addresses or anything else. No numbers needed!3. Finally, YES, you are indeed paying a premium for a virtually indestructible way to store your seed and protect your crypto. That may seem ridiculous to some but many of us have a lot invested in "invisible money" and the wallet you "keep" it in is worthless. This SEED is what you must protect!If you don't understand that or how this very simple device works, please, take it from a professional cryptocurrency trader: don't make another move into this realm until you've learned the basics. I say this because I love you.(didn't see that last part coming, did you?)

This is a strong product that has heft in your hand. It's not thin flimsy metal. It is designed to keep cryptographic seed backups safe. I don't doubt the claims that this could keep your backup seed safe through a house fire or flood. You can put two small padlocks through holes to keep it shut and unreadable. I wouldn't call this an anti-theft device though. This is the kind of thing that you nail to a stud and sheetrock it into a wall, only breaking the wall open again when emergency access to your recovery seed is needed. It should be fine in there no matter what happens. The letters for the seed words are plentiful. I think it's unlikely that you'll run out of letters you need and you'll have a lot of letters left over even when the Cryptosteel is full.I'm detracting 1 star for the following:The letters are on small metal squares that you arrange yourself in the Cryptosteel device. They are packaged in a tray that should be convenient but it isn't. The letters can be knocked out of the tray and mixed up during shipping. They are a PAIN to sort out when they are mixed up.Also the letters are not easy to slide into the Cryptosteel. It took me much longer to set my seed words up in the Cryptosteel than I expected. It's slow and tedious but at least only needs to be done once.

I bought this used, like new. It looks like an earlier version since some of the youtube videos show slight differences and perhaps better finishing. My main complaint is that the uniformity of the tiles is lacking. I had to get out my Dremel to polish off the rough edge to make them fit and slide in smoothly. Also, but not so important, it is a royal PITA to install the little tiles into the case. Especially since the quality control seems lacking. Bottom line: it functions as it is supposed to.

I'm a little stunned to see how many people know enough to realize they need this but truly have zero clue on how to use it -- and go so far as to bash the product that they clearly do not understand. Cryptosteel has set the gold standard for cold storage for crypto since it was introduced. To backup your Trezor, Ledger, Mycelium, or other HD wallet, you need to write down the first four letters of either 12 or 24 words, depending on your wallet of choice. Cryptosteel does it in a way that is virtually indestructible. That being said, it is not a $200 item. It is a $100 item. If you can't find it at that price, just wait a while -- it will come back down.If you're complaining about not being able to store longer strings or a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers, then you need to take a step back and learn more about crypto. That is not what this item is for. Bravo for trying to protect your balances, but if you're complaining loudly, you're only further embarrassing yourself and should really stop.

Had the wrong distribution of letters and numbers to really record the seed. Maybe I purchased the wrong type? I don't know, but I found out the hard and expensive way.

It advertises for Bitcoin. Bitcoin consists of numbers, letters upper and lower. This did not include the numbers nor lower case letters. The picture shows numbers and lower case letters but I’ll be damned if I could find any numbers (despite it claiming “some”). Now shame on me I guess for not reading it contains capital letters, so I’m stuck with it, just thought I’d pass on what kind of company this is....

Ok...the people giving these bad reviews are completely uneducated....allow me to clear the confusion. This does work with the Trezor and it also does store up to 24 words. The 24 word slots can do just the first four letters of each word because they are within the BIP39 word list. In other words no other words will have the same 4th letter in all your generated words.So yes this does store 24 words and it will still works even with just the first 4 letters of the word as the unit allows. Just buy it. It's amazing quality, heavy duty and worth the investment!!

I have several of these, and I love each and every one of them.One area for growth is in the documentation: it should be mentioned more loudly that you only need to store the first 4 letters of each word in your BIP39 recovery sentence. I've noticed a lot of people struggling with that, thinking that they can't fit all of their words since the cryptosteel only holds 4*24=96 tiles.
