Exhaust fan motor but my control is 12v. Can this relay handle it** A: This class of relays were designed to do that. Do note that this is designed for DC not AC. It will probably actuate on AC, but may run hotter and fail earlier because of the heat. The 10 amp rating will just support the starting current for a 1 HP motor. Recommended limit would be 1/2 HP or less. In motor starting applications the relay will arc at the points and eventually fail. The plug in configuration makes replacing the relay a momentary task, rather than a 30 minute chore! Buy a spare. I have used a pair of these on two 3/4 HP water pumps for 30 years & replace a relay about every 5 years. **Q: can you add a diode to the 12VDC?** A: If you use a silicon diode, you will drop .6 or so volts. If you are switching the 12v across the contacts, and need the voltage to power something, use a Schottky diode that drops about .2 volts forward conduction. The relay socket uses a standard terminal layout. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24V AC relay for sprinkler controller add-on - simple to use *by S***O on August 14, 2025* I made this convoluted wifi add-on for my dumb sprinkler controller, which this relay is a part of. I needed a 24V AC relay so that I can detect the sprinkler is on or not (albeit only one zone). I did not use the DIN rail that came with it, rather the spade connector directly to the terminals. I managed to broke off one of the terminals so I soldered the wire directly to the short remaining end. As to which terminals to use - you can see how this relay operates from the side, an advantage of having clear plastic cover, to figure out whether you want NC (normally closed) or NO (normally open). I even used the plastic box that came with it as an enclosure.
