Q: The description says it only works with hp toner, but i noticed someone mentioned using a generic toner? also, does this one allow for auto duplex?

I looked for a generic toner for this model and could not find one. I know that sounds odd, but I was forced to purchase HP toner, which of course was very expensive. But searching multiple toner websites turned up nothing. So see if you can even find one before purchasing. And no, it does not do auto duplex. This printer is the most basic of HP laser printers and really not worth any amount of money.

Q: is the 6 months free 'ink' as in the actual toner cartridge or is it a subscription 'fee' is free for 6 months?

well my toner tank is still running strong at 9 months since I bought it and I run it via ebay business. it's now reporting low ink but still prints like a champ

It will print on anything as long as it’s not a thick cardstock

Q: Does this take a ferric cartridge if so percent?

Most toner cartridges are about 40 to 50 percent iron so they can hold a charge.
