Exactly what I was looking for
I'm new to mushroom identification, and this is exactly what I was looking for. I may not use the pages like the author suggests: taking a spore print and writing about the find on the facing notes page of the open book. I'm probably going to detach all the pages, write notes about a particular mushroom on the back of the black/white page, then take the spore print and use a fixative to preserve the print. But the black/white pages are perfect for ensuring I get the print on the first try, whether it's light or dark. I take photos of the mushroom using my phone before I dig it up, and having the loose sheet will allow me to write down the photo filename(s) for future reference as well. The author might want to consider selling packs of loose sheets!

Perfect.
I bought this for mushroom spore prints. It is handy and just the right size. The black/white sheets are perfect when you aren't sure which color will show the spores the best. Just what I wanted.

It serves the purpose, sort of
So I was looking for like a small notepad of paper with half-black half-white sheets, and this is all I could find. Technically, it works and works well for taking spore prints since the sheets are half-black and half-white. But, I have some critiques / constructive criticisms.First of all, the book is too big to really be considered a field book. Also, the pages have a section for writing notes on the back so only half the pages of the book are actually black/white.Personally, I just cut out a few pages, fold them up, put them in a plastic baggie, and then into my backpack when going out into the field / camping. I guess if you were bringing the mushrooms to your house then the large size of the book wouldn't be a problem. However, it would be nice if the pages were segmented for tearing out, as trying to fold the spine of the book flat in order to take a spore print I think would be cumbersome. Now, here is the main thing I would like to see changed about the paper. The pages are so large, and since one corner is black and the other corner is white, being split down the middle, so that the two solid color corners don't really get used. I place my mushroom caps or even just small cuts of caps onto the line in the middle in order to take a spore print color for identification, the two solid color corners don't even get used. I would like to see the two colors split alternating into the 4 sections of the X instead of just 2, if that makes sense. Then there would be more black/white line space for placing mushrooms. So, in summary, the pages of the book work for taking mushroom spore prints, but the design has some flaws.

Super cool!
I was really way too excited about this book, and when it showed up it met all my expectations.Incredibly useless for most people and Incredibly valuable for Mushroom Hunters and people interested in mycology

If you're looking, buy it.
Paper was thicker than I had imagined. The space for notes on the back of the page next to it can be life saving. Amazing product.

not an art pad like I was hoping as a gift for my mushroom-loving ...
Not blank pages....they are half and half black/white, all of them. And they are rather small. I was hoping for something frame-worthy. These are not really. Its a field book, or a record book, not an art pad like I was hoping as a gift for my mushroom-loving son-in-law. but he liked it anyway. So three stars..

A question to my fellow reviewers: How could you?
I really was not a fan of this product. The book is a good idea, but there is simply too much moisture damage to the paper. I did try the recommended approach of placing aluminum foil behind the page, but even doing so the moisture makes the notes on the back side unreadable.Pros:Has black and white split pagesHas a notes sectionCons:Cannot stand up to moistureDouble sided pages means spore prints ruin the other side of the paperBook pages don't sit flat after useYou get what you pay for with this product, but the book format just doesnt work. The foil that's used to moisture guard the rest of the book would have been better used to take actual spore print on. I would have preferred loose leaf paper with a notes margin all on one page even.
