Sewell SW-32988 Direct BlastIR Wireless Pro IR Repeater, Remote Control Extender Kit (IR Emitter and Receiver),Black

Extremely easy setup and excellent function for me. I recently found that I had to replace the Recoton IR100 IR blasters that I have used for years because the IR100 emitters were being saturated with an RF signal that produced continuous IR output of them in the 25KHz to 40KHz range. Probably the recently relocated located TV station transmitter, which is now in a direct line of sight to my house, but I dont have equipment to prove that... The IR100 operates on a band in the 400MHz range. My setup uses a receiver just above the TV screen to capture my IR remote controls output, and 2 emitters, one across the room and about 15 feet away from nearly all the HT equipment on a side wall, and a second one behind the center channel speaker that controls a couple remote turn on devices for power amps located with the front LR speakers and subs. I went with the Sewell as a possible replacement because its RF communications is at a much higher 915MHz, which I hoped would experience less interference. I can say that the Sewell never seems to trigger false IR blasts in my location, so that pat of my hope has been fulfilled. I also hoped the first Sewell emitter would be powerful enough to cover the equipment from the same spot as the IR100, but while waiting on the Sewell to arrive, I built up a standalone IR amplifier to plug into the IR extender jack of the emitter, just in case the built in LED wasnt powerful enough (it is). When the Sewell arrived I found that it didnt need my amplifier at all. The LEDs in the included extenders might need to be really close to whatever you want to control, but not the built-in LED. The second Sewell emitter slotted into the spot behind the center channel speaker easily. These are much smaller than the Recoton IR so arent nearly as hard to hide, and they come with sticky foam tape, magnetic and rubber disc options for attaching to the bottom for a variety of ways to locate the pucks and keep them in place, which is nice.

I'm impressed with these little pucks 😉 I have one box connected to 2 TVs. Works great. The receiver has a blue indicator light letting me know it received the remote signal. Previously I had a cable that sent the remote signal through the HDMI cable. I like this much better. Highly recommend.

set this up with the receiver 8ft in front of my sofa. transmitter 2 ft in front of my stereo. If I am within 3-4 ft of receiver it works fine. But what's the point?! My remote has a better range than that. I tried adding the secondary receiver - no improvement. I tried adding the direct attach transmitter node - worse. I could get blue LED to flash on both devices - meaning an IR signal had been received and re-transmitted - with no response from the stereo. But if I got to within that 3-4 ft range - it would work (no change in anything else). So even when the device is saying it got a signal, the transmitter is not sending it or not sending it correctly. This is the second IR extender I have tried - it is no better than the cheaper one and neither of them work as advertised.

It does the job ... but ... the way the wire plugs into the hockey pucks (receiver and emitter) does not allow for the puck to lay flat resulting in throwing off the eye-to-eye connection. You have to anchor it down with something. Even though they do come with 'sticky' ways of anchoring it, I like to have my devices completely mobile. Question - how long will the 'sticky' continue to stick?!

I help a 96 year old blinded vet with tech support -- and as his health worsens, needed to make his TV, his radio, and the audio switch that selects what audio should go into his hearing aids via Bluetooth work from his easy chair in his living room. All the equipment is in his bedroom. This IR repeater system installed quickly and easily and works perfectly. Now he can summon ball games, news, or whatever he wants without fear of getting up and falling down. A perfect solution!

I purchased this to replace a 15 year old IR extender that failed and is no longer made. I hooked the Sewell units up in the same configuration as the old ones. Did not work. The emitter could not "hear" the transmitter. After some experimentation, I determined that the range in my house (plain wood frame house) is more like 10 to 20 feet. Once I moved the units within 10 feet of one another (with a wall between) the LED on the emitter said it was getting a signal. However, still no joy. I then moved the emitter to about 2 feet in front of the unit I was trying to control. Success! However, the emitter was now sitting on the floor on a pile of books. Not a good permanent solution. I then tried the double headed IR emitter cable. After more experimentation, I determined that only one of the two IR emitter heads actually worked. This is OK; only needed one. Note also that many devices don't tell you where their IR receiver window is, so finding the exact spot to place the emitter head took a bit of trial and error. Once all this was done I had things working pretty well. The lessons learned are first, the range is nothing like the maximum claimed. Second, the built in ir emitter is very weak compared to a real remote control - unless it is close, the target device cannot hear it. Third, this can be corrected by using the provided emitter cable, but in my case only one emitter head worked. Finally, I conclude that the Sewell IR extender can work, but it is not at all "plug and play". I haven't tried any other units so I can't say whether the Sewell is worse than other alternatives, but I doubt it is the best alternative out there.

I bought a new entertainment center with glass doors and wasn't getting good signal range with the door closed. Plus i couldnt get a good of line site, since this cabinet was shorter than the orginal, and the location for my avr was further to the left than before and now my line of sight to the receiver was blocked from other parts of the room due to high couch back. I tried a couple different cheap $10 devices that used stick on transmitters/receiver buttons but they were clumsy and didn't provide me a total solution for my room layout. Works fantastic with a denon x1800 receiver (and many other models). It works directly with the denon's ir remote port in the back of the avr port. The solution is actually quite simple. Plug a stereo 3.5 mm male to male plug in the denon ir port in the back of the avr and and the other end to the orange emitter box(puck). The pics are about the size of an oreo double stuff cookie Tuck the orange box/puck away whereever and plug the power in. The box doesn't need to seen or be pointed towards anything. It's location is only limited by the length of your stereo cable and access to AC power Put the blue box puck anywhere in the room where you have general line of sight to it from where you will be using your remote, and plug power in. In my case, its sitting on top of one of my tower speakers. From there it clears the back of the couch and can see from the family room, eat-in kitchen area, and the kitchen beyond. Done. I didn't need or use any of the included emitter or transmitter cables, though if you dont have a denon, or other brand avr with an ir port to plug into , or also want to hide the blue puck ( in which case attach the included sensor cable), you'll need them. But for denon users with an ir port, you just use the two pucks and their usb power adapters. Simple.

For years, I had been using the NextGen IR Remote Extender to control my TV set top box in my electrical closet. And I need to control it for my two TVs. The NextGen system worked for a while...until it didn't. The reviews in recent months were right. The setup was tedious and the signal was either hit or miss; but more of misses. Then when all hopes failed I decided to give this Sewell Direct BlastIR Wireless Pro a try, by act of faith mind you. At first, I was rather skeptical and apprehensive that this would not work at all. I mean considering my so-called "traumatizing" experience with the NextGen system was not encouraging at all. Not to mention that my set top box's IR receiver is rather difficult to locate unless I use its proprietary remote. But after setting up Sewell Direct BlastIR Pro, I was (and still) blown away by how incredible this system is. Not just its setup but the signal was as good as pointing my remote directly to the receiving end of my set top box; such that there's no reception delay at all. The only caveat is that it's a bit pricier but I suppose I don't mind spending just a little bit to make this work and it did. I couldn't be more pleased with this system.

BlastIR Wireless Pro works extremely well. Response time is fantastic and it was a breeze to setup in my media cabinet. Manual is very helpful but anyone needing an IR repeater in the first place is probably savvy enough to install these with almost no help, they are dead simple. This kit also includes everything you need, I really don't think Sewell does enough justice to their product on this page. It includes: 2 x USB power cables with 3.5mm (to unit) to USB (to power source), fairly long but of course, USB can be easily extended if you need. They also include two USB wall-chargers to power the devices. I love that these are separate and not attached to the cables. I have USB ports on my power strip, so I didn't need to use the chargers and fill up more outlets. The kit also includes an extension for the receiver (blue) so you could hide the receiver if the small (and non-intrusive, dim greenish-coloured) light on the receiver bothers you. You could also potentially pass the extender through small holes, around corners, or maybe through walls so you can control devices through even the most challenging of setups. There is also a long, dual-headed extender for the emitter. The cable comes with the heads together and you can peel them apart for only as much cable mess as you need. Allows for more control over more devices, but of course brings more wires to the mix. Then there are the adhesives. Reusable or permanent 3M adhesives for the units. There are two magnetic feet with a strong magnet if you need to stick to metal surfaces. The included extender cables also have adhesives on all the heads. Sewell really did include it all and I was happy I didn't have to think about how I was going to stick bits to things. An excellent product and a premium package. Sewell definitely gained a fan.
