Scriabin - The Complete Preludes and Etudes for Pianoforte solo - Scriabin
This is one complete book of the Scriabin preludes and etudes for piano. The contents are well documented by the Amazon 'Look Inside' link, 048622919X The print and paper quality of this book are very good. My book is used and the binding is in excellent condition. The book is an improved republication of the Breitkopf & Hartel edition with larger note heads and more space for entering notes and your own fingering as no fingering is in the print. This edition series by Dover takes the original four volumes and puts them into a very convenient set of two volumes. You can find many of these pieces for the piano solos at IMSLP.org. That being said, here is a summary of the contents of the 250 pages of this book: PRELUDES Op. 2, No. 2 in B Major For the Left Hand, Op. 9, No. 1 in C Sharp Minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part I: No. 1 in C major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part I: No. 2 in A minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part I: No. 3 in G major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part I: No. 4 in E minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part I: No. 5 in D major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part I: No. 6 in B minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part II: No. 7 in A major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part II: No. 8 in F sharp minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part II: No. 9 in E major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part II: No. 10 in C sharp minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part II: No. 11 in B major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part II: No. 12 in G sharp minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part III: No 13 in G flat major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part III: No. 14 in E flat minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part III: No. 15 in D flat major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part III: No. 16 in B flat minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part III: No. 17 in A flat major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part III: No. 18 in F minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part IV: No. 19 in E flat major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part IV: No. 20 in C minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part IV: No. 21 in B flat major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part IV: No. 22 in G minor 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part IV: No. 23 in F major 24 Preludes Op. 11, Part IV: No. 24 in D minor 6 Preludes, Op. 13 - No. 1 in C 6 Preludes, Op. 13 - No. 2 in A minor 6 Preludes, Op. 13 - No. 3 in G 6 Preludes, Op. 13 - No. 4 in E minor 6 Preludes, Op. 13 - No. 5 in D 6 Preludes, Op. 13 - No. 6 in B minor 5 Preludes, Op. 15 - No. 1 in A 5 Preludes, Op. 15 - No. 2 in F sharp minor 5 Preludes, Op. 15 - No. 3 in E 5 Preludes, Op. 15 - No. 4 in E 5 Preludes, Op. 15 - No. 5 in C sharp minor 5 Preludes, Op. 16 - No. 1 in B 5 Preludes, Op. 16 - No. 2 in G sharp minor 5 Preludes, Op. 16 - No. 3 in G flat 5 Preludes, Op. 16 - No. 4 in E flat 5 Preludes, Op. 16 - No. 5 in F sharp minor 7 Preludes, Op. 17 - No. 1 in D minor 7 Preludes, Op. 17 - No. 2 in E flat 7 Preludes, Op. 17 - No. 3 in D flat 7 Preludes, Op. 17 - No. 4 in B flat minor 7 Preludes, Op. 17 - No. 5 in F minor 7 Preludes, Op. 17 - No. 6 in B flat 7 Preludes, Op. 17 - No. 7 in G minor 4 Preludes, Op. 22 - No. 1 in G sharp minor 4 Preludes, Op. 22 - No. 2 in C sharp minor 4 Preludes, Op. 22 - No. 3 in B 4 Preludes, Op. 22 - No. 4 in B minor 2 Preludes, Op. 27 - No. 1 in G minor 2 Preludes, Op. 27 - No. 2 in B 4 Preludes, Op. 31 - No. 1 in D flat/C 4 Preludes, Op. 31 - No. 2 in F sharp minor 4 Preludes, Op. 31 - No. 3 in E flat minor 4 Preludes, Op. 31 - No. 4 in C 4 Preludes, Op. 33 - No. 1 in E 4 Preludes, Op. 33 - No. 2 in F sharp 4 Preludes, Op. 33 - No. 3 in C 4 Preludes, Op. 33 - No. 4 in A flat 3 Preludes, Op. 35 - No. 1 in D flat 3 Preludes, Op. 35 - No. 2 in B flat 3 Preludes, Op. 35 - No. 3 in C 4 Preludes, Op. 37 - No. 1 in B flat minor 4 Preludes, Op. 37 - No. 2 in F sharp 4 Preludes, Op. 37 - No. 3 in B 4 Preludes, Op. 37 - No. 4 in G minor 4 Preludes, Op. 39 - No. 1 in F sharp 4 Preludes, Op. 39 - No. 2 in D 4 Preludes, Op. 39 - No. 3 in G 4 Preludes, Op. 39 - No. 4 in A flat 4 Preludes, Op. 48 - No. 1 in F sharp 4 Preludes, Op. 48 - No. 2 in C 4 Preludes, Op. 48 - No. 3 in D flat 4 Preludes, Op. 48 - No. 4 in C 2 Preludes, Op. 67 - No. 1 2 Preludes, Op. 67 - No. 2 5 Preludes, Op. 74 - No. 1 5 Preludes, Op. 74 - No. 2 5 Preludes, Op. 74 - No. 3 5 Preludes, Op. 74 - No. 4 5 Preludes, Op. 74 - No. 5 ETUDES Op. 2, No. 1 in C Sharp Minor 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 1, Allegro 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 2, A capriccio, con forza 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 3, Tempestoso 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 4, Piacevole 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 5, Brioso 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 6, Con grazia 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 7, Presto tenebroso, agitato 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 8, Lento, Tempo rubato 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 9, Alla ballata 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 10, Allegro 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 11, Andante cantabile 12 Etudes, Op. 8: Etude No. 12, Patetico 8 Etudes, Op. 42: Etude No. 1, Presto 8 Etudes, Op. 42: Etude No. 2 8 Etudes, Op. 42: Etude No. 3, Prestissimo 8 Etudes, Op. 42: Etude No. 4, Andante 8 Etudes, Op. 42: Etude No. 5, Affanato 8 Etudes, Op. 42: Etude No. 6, Esaltato 8 Etudes, Op. 42: Etude No. 7, Agitato 8 Etudes, Op. 42: Etude No. 8, Allegro 3 Etudes, Op. 65: Etude No. 1, Allegro fantastico 3 Etudes, Op. 65: Etude No. 2, Allegretto 3 Etudes, Op. 65: Etude No. 3, Molto vivaceThis is the only book of all Scriabin's preludes and etudes that I could find, though individual pieces are available from many sources including IMSLP.org.A fantastic collection of works that are unique and make this book one for the pianist who wants to discover and study new horizons. If you are not familiar with these pieces, you must listen to them on, say, Rhapsody, to get an idea of just how interesting they are.

Unduly neglected works for all levels of pianist
Scriabin's preludes and etudes represent everything from Scriabin's early days through to the final ones. The preludes etudes show such a wide variety of styles and colors of such a wide variety of difficulties (from very easy preludes to some extremely demanding etudes) that this book would give anyone years of beautiful music to study. Many pianists and aspiring musicians tend to categorize Scriabin as a "2nd-tier" composer, ignoring all but a few of his works (such as his etudes Op. 8 No. 12 and Op. 42 No. 5, both included in this volume). Before purchasing this volume (and the sonatas and miscellaneous pieces), I was under this false impression as well; however, the more Scriabin I play, the more I am convinced of his incredible innovation, creativity, and talent for writing thoroughly profound music in a matter of a few dozen bars. After having read through most of the book, and having seriously studied a fair number of the works within, I tend to be thoroughly dissatisfied with most performances of his music - I believe that the lack of color and architecture in many modern performances of his music make it sound shallow and boring; thus the general lack of interest in his music. For such a cheap price, I would implore any pianist or piano student to purchase this volume and discover Scriabin for themselves. It's the best ten bucks I've ever spent.

Some of the greatest late Romantic piano solo works
Scriabin was a contemporary of Rachmaninoff, in fact, he studied under the same teacher. Like Rachmaninoff, he was a bridge composer between the late Romantic and the 20th Century period. He was far more modern, in fact, than Rachmaninoff, though his early works were profoundly influenced by Chopin (Rachmaninoff less so--he was influenced by Chopin but also Tchaikovsky.)Despite the fact both composers shared Russian heritage and a love of the piano, Rachmaninoff did not admire Scriabin's works, saying he had gone off in a wrong direction. While I love Rachmaninoff's piano works intensely, I have to say that he was really wrong about Scriabin. This is some of the most gorgeous, introspective, Impressionist piano music ever written.Scriabin had a tragically short life, yet he composed quite a number of etudes, preludes, sonatas and other short piano works. Dover has done a huge favor by putting all the preludes and etudes into a single volume. There is enough material here for years of exploration into the music of a piano master. The edition is a compact volume that manages to sit well on the piano music stand, and the music print is clear and easy to read.

Beautiful Music
Music book is as described. Print is excellent. My only complaint is the book was packaged in a paper envelope for shipping and consequently folded in half to fit my mailbox. Nothing more annoying than wrinkled/creased music to read for me. Based on shipping, I would purchase elsewhere, but the product itself is beautiful compositions.

Yay Scriabin!
These pieces, especially the Etudes, are amazing and sometimes amazingly difficult. This one book can easily keep you busy for the better part of a decade. The only problem with this edition is that there is absolutely no fingering provided for any piece! However that was also true for every other Scriabin printing I could find, so I guess everyone is on equal footing. The notation seems a bit larger than usual which is nice for those of us who no longer have microscopic vision.

Scriabin collection
This is seemingly the only collection containing both preludes and etudes of Scriabin. So, the collection is really good and prize low, but there are no fingerings, but I guess this isn't that kind of edition( like eg. Peters Edition). So, if you just want lots of sheet music for a good price, this is for you.

It is correctly printed and quite readable and for the price it is an excellent value; it can not compete with the Henle ...
The product is as advertized. Contains complete preludes and etudes, no preface nor comments and no fingering. It is correctly printed and quite readable and for the price it is an excellent value; it can not compete with the Henle and similar publishers in terms of quality but for that price you get both the preludes and etudes.

All the preludes in one book
Some of the photocopies/printed pages were a bit blurry - but the collection is a good price, well bound and I am delighted with it.

Every other page not correctly printed!
Good value and a nice collection of Scriabin's work, however I was disappointed to find that every second page was incorrectly printed (see the attached image - as you can see, the incorrectly printed pages - left image - consist of two printings that are not quite lined up), leaving me wondering if my eyes were not quite focusing!

A great volume!
For those, like me looking to explore the piano music of Scriabin this is a must have and is a steal at this price. The book is nicely presented, it lies pretty much flat at the piano and there is a real range of difficulties in the pieces - I'd say from about grade 4 ABRSM to virtuoso standard. Found in Scriabin's music are moments of beauty, dissonance, rich harmony and intricate melodies. Buy this!
