Will this work with a new mini mac hooking up to an old monitor with a via 15 pin connector?

Sorry, this HDMI to VGA cable does not support apple device. You can buy another HDMI to VGA cable with USB power port that supports Apple device in our store.

"Will it work with two laptops for extending display? MY second laptop which I will as a second screen has a vga port."

Yes, it can work with two laptops. Mirror mode and extending mode!

hp desktop computer with vga connection and a new lg monitor with both vga/ hdmi connections. if i were to go with adapter, what would you suggest? i

Do not go with this adapter. VGA to HDMI and vise versa is what the smart guys call an "active conversion" and needs to be powered. HDMI has the ability to transmit power, aka PoHDMI. But VGA does not have this capability, and VGAtoHDMI would not work with this cord. If your monitor did not have the VGA port, we could point you towards some other options. But for you, a simple VGA cable will suffice with no noticeable loss of quality.
