My cats loved this laser toy so I bought two so I could always have one charged and set up for them. Unfortunately, one stopped holding a charge within 7 months. Great toy but useful life is very disappointing.

I have only just set this up this morning, so I can't comment on long-term use or enjoyment, but...my cats LOVE this thing!! They are spoiled kitties, so of course they have other laser pointer toys, including one that rolls around in an erratic pattern. They like that one, but they get bored of it pretty quickly, too--I think because they understand that it's a toy. With this one, they don't seem to get it. It operates almost completely silently and the outer part of it doesn't move at all, so they aren't sure where the light is coming from. This toy changes the direction of the laser light frequently, but moves it slowly enough that it can be 'caught', and that keeps my girls engaged. I also like that you can choose different settings, including speed and the circumference of the circles it makes. That means the light might crawl up the wall a little bit, but you can make sure it doesn't go up too high, should you need to protect something from an errant pounce. And, of course, there's my favorite feature, and the reason I was excited to get this toy in the first place: the auto mode. You can set this thing to 'come alive' for 10 minutes every 2 hours! It will turn itself off completely after 12 hours, but this is a wonderful way to keep my cats entertained while I'm away for the day.For future improvements, I think it would be great if the outer part of this toy could tilt and rotate. As it is, it has to sit on the floor or the light would shine mostly on the wall. I would prefer to set this on a table or shelf and see it tilt down a little bit to shine the red light across the floor and only some of the wall. Of course, that might blow its cover and make it not-so-silent, so a tilt might not be possible. I'd also love to be able to set the auto mode for 24 to 48 hours so that it could give my cats something to do if I'm away for a whole weekend. For now, I'll have our pet sitter reset it when she drops in, so it's not a big deal, but it would be a very convenient option.I am surprised to find a cat toy of this quality at such a fair price. My cats love this toy so far. Paisley, in particular, is absolutely nuts about it, running to catch the red light any time it comes on. She doesn't seem to get tired of it. I do like to cycle their toys and take them away, then bring them back out a few weeks later so they don't get too bored with them, but I think this will be a popular one! I will definitely rely on it when I'm traveling so they have something to do while I'm gone.
