Highest power and best feature FRS-only radio handsets
Among FRS-only handheld radios (no license required), if you want the highest power and most features, at only double the cost compared to the cheapest toy FRS-only radios, the BTECH FRS-A1 is the very best quality and most capable FRS-only handset, and is my favorite pick.I've bought and given several of these as gifts to friends who don't have a Ham or GMRS license, and they get my highest recommendation for those looking for the best FRS-only handset. Both the BTECH FRS-A1 (~$50 including 2 handsets) and the Radioddity FS-T1 (~$30 including 2 handsets) both transmit at 2 watts, the maximum allowed for FRS-only radios. Both are extremely similar. And both are exceptional for their price. However, in my opinion the BTECH FRS-A1 is worth the extra ~$20 (~$10 extra per handset) for these slightly better features: - USB-C connector for the charger, for faster and more compatible charging, instead of Micro-USB. - Mic/Earphone jack is standard K1 size/style, compatible with HAM or GMRS ear-mic's or shoulder-mic and PC programming cables, instead of a single combined smaller mic/earphone jack. - Supports Chirp PC programming, useful to program a large set of radios with identical privacy tones/codes. - Includes a K1 size/style ear-mic accessory, can be reused on other K1 jack HAM or GMRS radios. - Can scan for channels and scan for all 260 CTCSS/DCS privacy tones/codes, and use them to join in to other people's conversations, very useful in an emergency. - Commercial FM Radio (music/news) has both manual and auto scan/search, not only scan/search. - Channel names can be customized, not just showing ch# or frequency - An indicator light to show when transmitting/receiving a signal - Charger connects directly to batteries, not through the handset, so extra batteries can be charged while the handset is away. - IP54 weather resistance (which is kind of weak, but better than nothing)Both radios also support the following very useful features: - All 22 FRS and GMRS simplex channels. (FRS does not support GMRS repeater input frequencies) - NOAA weather channels - Basic channel, squelch, volume controls, calling/alert tone, unsquelch/monitor, and both channel and frequency display. - Other advanced handset features, such as keypad lock, VOX mode, Busy Channel lockout, Transmit time-out-timer, and dual-watch dual-frequency listening. - Included 1500ma lithium ion rechargable batteries, no need to buy disposable or rechargable AA or AAA batteries. - Split cable 2 in 1 charger, to charge both radios from a single USB adaptor and wall socket. - Flashlight, belt-clip and wrist-strap.Neither of these are toys. They're both the best FRS-only radios you can get for the money. So it just depends if you're willing to spend $10 extra per handset, for the very best, which is the BTECH FRS-A1.

For the price, they're ok
They're great for kids or for short range comms in most cases. They do spill some cross channel transmission though, which isn't really acceptable. Not sure how they're certified by the FCC but they work well for kids or for around the camp or short range comms for offroading with your friends. I'd buy them again.

Easy to use and inexpensive
Product was used for vehicle to vehicle radio transmissions during a performance driving event. Range in the mountains was about a mile as expected. They did the job expected of them

Nice
We bought these cause we had a convoy traveling up north. 12.5 hr drive and 3 vehicles. I charged them the night before and stayed charged for 10hrs or so. I loved the larnard cause I put it around my neck. While driving I didn't have to look for it. It has a lot of features but I just used the basic. It does have a little light u can use but not real bright. There was 1 issue we had and still don't know the exact problem. But a bunch of static came over the talkie, we just changed the channel and it went away. The charger was nice. 1 USB port with 2 c charges to charge 2 at a time. It worked great for what we needed at the time.

Very nice
I bought these so my daughter and I can communicate without having to use our cell phones. For some reason, I don’t have cell service 100% of the time. There has been hours where I am unable to make a call, so now we have the walkie talkies to communicate if needed. I only live down the block from my daughters so I am not sure how far the range will go. I am going to test that out soon. So far they have performed very well. They are light in weight and a good value for your money. The battery life is good but that depends on how much you use them. I charge them once a day but there is still battery life left in them before I recharge.

Not the expected range
I have to say that I'm disappointed with the range of these radios. I've had older FRS radios that had much better range. We tried to use them for car caravaning on California highways. At a quarter mile apart they don't work well enough to easily understand eachother.I like that these radios have a volume knob, USB C charging, and included earpieces at a good price. They could be useful for short range needs, but not great for talking between 2 cars on the freeway.Too late to return. Maybe I'll find utility with them around the house.

Nice feature set, LOUD volume, menu more complicated than most
Lots of bells & whistles with this one. I read a review that said its volume was poor, but it is LOUD. Like, ear-splitting loud. If this is not loud enough for you, get your hearing tested (seriously!). I like that it's rechargeable, via rechargeable battery pack, so if you want you can pack some spares. I like the dual-channel monitoring, which is important for me. I also love that it has a standard Kenwood dual-jack connector for ear/mic. The backlight comes on whenever buttons are pressed, which is handy, but it's also nice that the backlight illuminates the radio case from within, giving the whole thing a glow effect. The biggest minus so far is the complexity of the menu, but the large feature set necessitates a more complicated menu (although IMO it doesn't need to be *this* complicated). Another minor issue is that when the earpiece (or any Kenwood-standard handmic) is attached, the cord interferes with accessing the flashlight button. Also, the manual is missing a couple of important instructions, but I'm figuring some things out via trial and error. As a tech writer, this really bothers me, tho.

False advertisement
They state the range is 36 miles. That's a complete lie!! You may get close to a mile and even at that range, you can't understand each other. These work about as good as my kids $10 radios. I'll be sending them back.
