Glympstorys Hardcover – March 1, 2014

This latest creative venture, "Glympstorys", by Roy Stuart, is a "must-have" for any serious collector. Complimenting Stuart's book, is a DVD, that gives further delightful insights into this talented photographer's work.As always, his models are most special, delightfully natural, mischievous, and unpretentious.I consider this volume, and the DVD which is included, a delightful addition to my "Roy Stuart" collection.

I agree with Jon Hughes when he writes Stuart is a talented photographer but I disagree when he says there are too many poems. He renews himself in a lyrical way I guess... For me this book is as good as the previous ones, maybe even better. It's very considered, sexy and brilliant. There is sensitivity in Glympstorys and Stuart succeeded where other erotic photographers failed. This book is amazing.

A great book, better than the previous collection of Stuart"s photos published by Taschen, perhaps because Dian Hanson was not involved in the project-this one is more elegant, the models are more natural and hotter, especially the cover girl who is featured in the book. The DVD that comes with the volume is particularly strong. Not to miss.

Stuart is a talented photographer, but clearly needs a good editor. In his previous books we see page after page of natural young women shot in a cinematic but still realistic style. Here, you see some of that, but way too many poems, many in French, and landscape photos, and some pictures of artists he likes, and some kind of Catholic ceremony, and a mime... It's a mishmash and takes up many, many pages that could be devoted to what he does best.

The DVD that comes with the book will not play. Supposedly the disc carries both NTSC and PAL formats, but none of my three DVD players can read the disc at all. So the DVD is worthless. As for the book, it doesn't seem to know if it wants to be an art book or a book of explicit pornography. The poetry is pretty bad. The book is definitely not worth the high price.

This is not by Taschen. You sure can tell when Dian Hanson is not the editor. over indulgent and not a interesting. Worse yet, the DVD did not work--could not be read. Tried three different machines. Even tried it with my computer. Nada. Save your money and stick to the stuff he has done with Taschen. The new stuff just not worth it

Dieses Buch ist ein Gesamtkustwerk, wie bei dem Verlag auch nicht anders zu erwarten. Bis jetzt war jedes Buch sein Geld wert, welches ich mir von diesem Verlag gekauft habe. Ich kann nur jedem der Qualität zu angemessen Preis will, zu diesem Verlag raten. Das Format ist immer so ausgesucht, dass man alles gut darauf erkennen kann.

今までにTASCHEN社から出版されていた数々の作品集とは明らかに趣が異なり、最初は戸惑いました。あまりにも「直接的(そのものズバリ）」過ぎるというか、日本で一般的に販売されている芸術(ART）作品集というには刺激が強過ぎると表現すべきか悩むところです(察してください）。ただ、2読、3読していくうちに従来の作品群と切り口は異なるが、コンセプトはブレていないこと、更に「一歩踏み込んだ表現」を用いたことで、現代の芸術の在り方を（読者に）問いかけている芸術（ART)作品集であることに気づきました。一読目は芸術（表現）の根底にある非日常的であるように見える印象的(象徴的）な場面・光景を確りとしたアングルで切り取り、表現しているような印象をを受けた。しかし、これらはその実「日常にある、ありふれた光景」、所謂「プライベートな秘め事(私事）」であり、何ら特別なものではない。（「他者」のこれらの光景・行為を直接目の当たりにする機会は一生を通じても恐らくないと思われるが・・・）多くの作品では被写体は表現者と一体と化し自然体そのものである(普段通りに生活を行っている＝カメラを意識していない印象の意味）。被写体にとって「演じる必要がない」日常にある非日常的な、自然な光景。それでいて極一部の写真は被写体がカメラを意識し、その光景を偶然目の当たりにした人へ「口ほどにものを言う目力」を通じ、「人間だから当たり前の行為よ」「あなたもそうでしょ(同じでしょ）」と冷静に諭す。人間の在り方、自然の摂理。ベールに包まれている私たちの日常をそのまま切り取った作品集。日常的な「非日常」をストレートに表現した画期的な作品集だと評価しました。

The included dvd would not play in a regular dvd player. It did work on a late model computer without problems.

Roy Stuart est assurément quelqu'un dont l'écriture photographique porte et apporte quelque chose de nouveau, et questionne même sur la féminité, sa mise en scène, la pudeur, la beauté et l'esthétique. Glympstorys est tout d'abord un très bel ouvrage, mais c'est aussi l'aboutissement d'un parcours où, fait rare, le texte aussi prend tout son sens et son intérêt.A recommander à la fois à celles et ceux qui connaissent et apprécient le travail de Roy Stuart, et à celles et ceux qui ont envie de le découvrir.
