Would this be ok for a six year old, or is it more for a younger child.

I bought it for my 9 moth old but my 6, 8 and 10 year old kids are having much more fun with it.

I gave it as a gift, but as far as I remember, it doesn't move.

Hi, I gave it to my granddaughter and all I remember is that it will repeat what you say but does it right away. As for playing back later I just don't think so.

Sound activated? For example, if I had him on the front porch, would it interact with guests and passerbys?

You have to be close to it. I mean you can be a few feet away, but not sure on a porch and then how far away they can be. It was a lot of fun for us. I think the adults got more fun out of it then the kids.
