Great if you are not strong enough to lift your e bike or carrier onto the hitch
I love this bike rack although I had to get a second mortgage on the house to afford it. I am able to easily get my bike loaded onto my SUV hitch. The lights work great too!!

Parts missing
First off when item was delivered, the box looked like it had been thru World War One and two. It was in terrible condition. Since it was used (refurbished) I didn’t expect the box to be perfect but this was a little disturbing. After getting it unpacked the unit itself didn’t look bad so I proceeded to hook it up only to realize it was missing a couple of important parts, one being the keys you needed to turn on the motor. Packed it back up (better than I received it) and returned it.

It seemed expensive, it was worth it.
We got ours through saris over a year ago. We have a Chevy Colorado and the wiring was perfect. Just plug it in. I like the lift feature. It took a bit to figure out how to secure our 2 haibike emtb bikes. They are secure and hold good. Our bikes say they are 63 lbs. 3 lbs over the reccomended weight. On long trips i will use a ratchet strap to keep the bounce off the racks.securing to top of rack and over the tailgate to inside if truck. It take a little weight off the racks and makes me feel a bit better.Be careful with the lock for the hitch pin as the key will remove in the unlocked position and i lost my lock. The holding straps also lock for a bit of extra security. At age 65 with systica this rack takes a load off. And it is cool too.

Issues after 22 days
The rack as a whole is exactly what we were looking for to haul our two EMTBs. I really liked the lights because they help drivers identify the back of the rack. However, 22 days after purchase, it already has issues with the right side marker light (used approximately 15 times). The lens cover is removable to access the bulbs. In this case, it was not the bulb; it was the connections to the bulb on the socket, which do not appear to be well suited for something subject to a lot of vibration. To ensure it was not the bulb, I swapped the two bulbs in the right-hand assembly, and the problem did not follow. I found it puzzling that after swapping the bulbs, turning the right blinker on activated BOTH blinkers. Attempted to call Customer Service at 1230pm CST on a Monday. I remained on hold for twenty minutes, and eventually, the automated voice wanted me to leave a message (despite the estimated 3-minute hold time). In addition, the unit has started randomly beeping despite being fully raised and the system off (still plugged in though). I have to put the key in, turn it on and back off for it to stop. Something this expensive should be more reliable, and Saris should have better customer support.Update: I continued to have light issues and the on/off key switch eventually would not work. I contacted Saris via email asking if there was another solution to upgrade the bulb sockets to something more reliable....no response. I went to the auto parts store and found much better sockets. I removed the old, wired in the new and have had no issues since. For the key switch, the unit requires extensive disassembly to remove the switch. Once removed, I took the switch apart and found a lot of dirt in the contacts. I cleaned it thoroughly and put it back together. I have had no issues since, but I dread the next time it has to be cleaned. Beware: the switch has some small parts (springs and contact bars) that are a PITA to reinstall. There is also a flimsy snap ring that appears to be a single-use item, meaning it should be replaced each time it is removed. Luckily, I had some better ones on hand that worked ok.A new problem developed with the straps. They are attached to the rails with pop rivets. After many uses and tension from ratcheting down the straps, the rivets work their way loose and eventually come out...usually when you try to use it. The soft aluminum tracks are thin-walled and not suited for the strap tension. Once again, no response from Saris. I ended up adding a thick strip of aluminum to reinforce the side of the track and a substantial screw to attach the strap. I check the screw periodically to make sure it stays tight, but no issues since. Also, the teeth on the straps will wear down over time, diminishing the amount of hold-force the straps provide.Final update: One of the wheels has become dislodged and the rack will not roll right when I am rolling it in or out of the garage. I purchased a new truck, and the cable for the lights had almost no slack. I had to buy a 3-foot extension cord and bracket to give it adequate slack. One of the key locks for the upper strap now turns 360 degrees rather than stopping at the lock position. After my latest trip to Utah for mountain biking, the red rock dust was everywhere, including the key switch (again). Be aware that this rack has no way to manually raise it. If it gets stuck in the down position, your expensive rack just became a trailer unless you have an alternate means to transport the bikes. The rack has needed too much maintenance, and the lack of customer support has left me with no choice but to fix things myself. I reached my limit and got rid of it. I want my efforts focused on my expensive bikes, not keeping the rack serviceable. I hope my review has helped some of you with making their decision.

Missing part
The lift came without a key - that said we had to make sure so we looked everywhere it could possibly be. Very disappointing !

Don't purchase from Saris
I purchased the bike rack a year ago, and it quit working. I contacted them about a warranty repair. They said they would send me parts so I can fix it myself. I did not buy a rack to fix it. They have zero customer service. They said I could pay a bike shop to fix it myself.I thought a warranty meant the manufacturer would fix their defective product. I guess I must be dumb to think the manufacturer would stand by their product.Saris said that they can only replace a defective unit, and the repair it. They refuse to replace the unit, which to me means that they sell the rack as-is with no warrenty

Sturdy enough, well made and works OK
In general, I'm pleased with this rack which holds (and lifts) our 2 custom electric recumbent bikes, which weigh in at 42 and 49 lbs.A couple of relatively minor gripes:1. The rack is made with a slight (~5-10°) angle between the receiver and the bike rack itself. In the "Up" position this is no big deal, but in the down position it puts the wheel trays up off the ground, making it necessary to lift the bikes up instead of just rolling them onto the trays. That lifting is what I'd hoped to avoid when I bought this rack.2. The fold-up capability is super nice and the cover is a sweet bonus. However, the casters are absolutely horrible pieces of crap. I'm replacing them with some pretty decent ones for a total cost of $20. Really, SARIS? A $1300 rack with POS casters? C'mon...3. The only way to get it to stop beeping is to unplug it. No, that's not a deal breaker but it sure is annoying.I still give it 4 stars because it is sturdy and looks like it will last.

Key broke off in lock 1 - customer support sending replacement
We bought this rack from a bike dealer - on the 2nd use the key broke off in the lock. - I am working with customer service now to get a resolution. Will update this review based on that experience. I am using email to communicate - and they are responding within 48 hours or so.Update: I called customer support to get an update and after showing proof of purchase (I only had it for 2 weeks), they have sent me a fedex bill to return the broken one and they are shipping me a new one.Hopefully the new one lasts a long time. One other point: if you have a Ford or Lincoln I order to move the rack up or down the brake must be pressed down on your car.
