Speaker with versatile Indoor/Outdoor tuning. Tuned by Oluv.
The media could not be loaded. EDIT: I’ve slightly updated this review, because I ended up purchasing another speaker for stereo sound.I own two of the original UBOOM’s. This new larger UBOOM L has a different form factor and sounds much better tuned by Oluv. Keep in mind everyone’s ear is different. My ear wants bass, but I don’t want bass that is boomy and that takes away from overall clarity.Oluv’s tuning does two things in my opinion. Indoor Mode allows you to listen in your home and even at very low levels. You won’t disturb your neighbors in an apartment setting and you can still enjoy full and balanced sound at lower volume settings. The bass is there, but it’s not boomy bass. Maybe a bass head won’t like that? Personally, I’m not a fan of boomy bass that overwhelms the clarity of the music. If you want a little more bass, Outdoor Mode is the way to go. There’s more bass in that mode, but still tuned so it doesn’t overwhelm everything.Oluv gave people choices here, which I like. I see myself using both modes, when it’s appropriate in my environment and still have balanced tuning either way at any volume level.I ended up purchasing two of these speakers for stereo sound. There’s plenty of volume with one speaker, but the L/R stereo separation playing two together is so worth it in my opinion. Overall this an excellent speaker, at a great price point. The UBOOM L gives you the performance and sound of much more costly speakers. There are plenty of Bluetooth speakers released without much thought to tuning. Some have too much bass and others too much treble. This tuning is balanced and neutral. I like that Oluv collaborated with Earfun. I hope he does more of this in the future. In regards to the firmware. It can be found at Earfun’s website under Support/Product Guides, then click on UBOOM L. Just download the media product tool, firmware and instructions. It’s pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have a USB-C data cable. Less than a minute to run the update. After the update, forget the device in your Bluetooth settings and reconnect.I’ve attached photos and a video clip of the speakers connected in Stereo playing a track from the Spotify playlist of NCS/NoCopyrightSounds. They’re playing in Indoor Mode. Please use your headphone’s or ear bud’s to listen. (If you listen with a mobile device or tablet, you won’t get the full effect). You can hear the combination of clarity, bass and stereo separation in the video. I hope this video helps. I would definitely recommend giving this speaker a try.Music / NoCopyrightSounds:“Slow Down” by Jim Yosef, Shiah Maisel

Great Unit - Good value - Not for Everyone
I over-research stuff, yet reading reviews is maddening. You think you've found a good item, and then you read the 1-star reviews. Well, to cut to the chase, I wasn't going to spend this much money (even w/coupon) and was going to get a ~$20 unit. I've got "real speakers" all over the house and back yard, so this is just for portability. Anyway, I took the plunge on this one based on everything I could put together from Reddit, enthusiast publications, and these reviews. I'm glad I did. Fakespot pans the review quality here, but I ain't no 'bot, so here's a short story:- Build quality is solid (see teardown videos on Youtube/unit has some heft/even the packaging is nice)- Sound quality is really good (subjective I know, but there's some Youtube comparisons out there and you can geek out on frequency response charts on Reddit)Cons: If you want the best sound out of it, re-flash the firmware down one revision. Not that the firmware it's now shipped with is bad (v5.0), but the last version (v4.8) has more neutral frequency response. You can find the charts if you want to deep dive. Well, you have to geek out a bit if you're going to flash firmware. It's not hard, and you can find everything you need by searching for "Earfun Uboom L" and spending a little time. I just reflashed the firmware on mine from 5.0 to 4.8 and it didn't take very long at all. YMMV. The only other thing I might note is the control buttons aren't illuminated or even painted. The on/off, bluetooth, volume, etc. buttons are embossed black rubber...not a visual standout so you may be getting close to the unit to read them until you're familiar with it. Lastly, there's no carry lanyard or some such if that is a factor in your search. All in all, I think this thing puts out excellent sound for the money. It's definitely in a whole different league from the $20 units I was looking at. But! (There's always a "but" isn't there?), if you're hung up on the firmware thing - specifically if you don't think it sounds as good with v5.0 that is loaded currently, AND messing w/computers, utility programs, and cables is not for you, then you might want to spend more bucks (maybe double?) on another unit. As noted, you can find the instructions on line and see if you'd want to do it. Sorry for not putting links to all these references, but I found 'em pretty quickly so if you're interested, you won't have a problem finding more info than you'll need.As noted, I'm quite happy with it despite the caveats. I have zero buyer's remorse on this one.And as for the quality of product reviews, if I were a 'bot, would I know who won the 1938 World Series? Oh wait, that's the question they ask in those bad WWII movies to find the spy...
