Holy Corpse Rising Vol. 3

A new witch and new dangers
The previous volume of Holy Corpse Rising ended on a cliffhanger as Nikola, Ezelvald and Upsula found themselves in a bad spot and Nikola had to revive a third witch. This one is named Mylitta, who proves to be shy, awkward and great with poisons. To use a Big Bang Theory analogy, imagine if instead of a scientist, Amy Farrah Fowler was a witch and you have an idea of what Mylitta is like. She does save the team (and probably any kid who's been picked on by bullies would love to have her particular powers) but there are new dangers. An abbey has an ill woman who may be more than she seems. Our heroes travel to a town considered prosperous and famed for its food, but is now suffering from a famine caused by a woman named Amala who captures Ezelvald and subjects her to interesting methods of torture. That said, Amala has quite the backstory. Volume 3 ends on another cliffhanger and it looks like Nikola and the witches may have their biggest challenge yet. Holy Corpse Rising is proving to be a well-written, well-drawn fantasy series and I will look forward to Volume 4.

Great continuation
This book continues just as volume 2 ended. The writing and art continue to be strong. I found the new witch a little annoying. This volume has less fan service than the previous two books, but their is still a little. This volume also ends on a cliff hanger, and we've got several months to wait to see how this one is resolved.
