I read several online reviews, and Vigilant alarms are highly recommended. I chose this one because I wanted the extra strap on top and the alarm level is 135 dB. Some reviewers here complained that it's not loud enough, but the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association website says that "Impulse noise greater than 140 dBP* will hurt your hearing right away." You can buy 140-150 dB alarms but you'd need to weigh the likelihood of hearing damage vs the possibility that protection might be increased. BTW, the average smoke alarm is 85 dB. I tested this alarm & 135 dB is plenty loud!* dBP is dB peak pressure, the measure for impulse noise

We live in a rural area, where the neighbors are spaced. My wife likes to run around our local lake in the evening. I worry about her safety even though there have been no reported instances of attacks that I know of. She 5' 5" maybe 125 lbs. Not much of a deterrent for anyone. I ordered three, one for the wife and the others for my daughters. We tested it outdoors unannounced. Although we can't see our neighbors that well, they heard the siren when I tested it. I may have had to apologize, but I was actually quite happy that even in a rural area where the houses are spaced apart, It gets the attention. A good product and cheap..... just don't know about battery life.

I like the size. I like that there is a lanyard separate from the pin puller. Like that it is black and unobtrustive. Have it clipped to my purse.

Purchased for 8 year old granddaughter because this is no longer an environment in the USA where we can let kids out of sight. The device is simple and she understands how to use it.

Nice and loud

Bought this 4 months ago. It worked fine to start. This afternoon when I came home from work I noticed the emergency cord was missing. It had come out somehow and the alarm never activated! When I opened the alarm I saw that two tiny wires had come completely off. The only possible way for this to happen was if their connection had simply degraded. There was no way for the wires to have been moved from outside the device. Let me just say, I am fortunate and so very thankful I discovered this now and NOT during an emergency. I have never had this occur with another personal alarm. It was disturbing.

Not as loud as I'd like but the light is useful for finding the keyhole in the dark.

This product is highly rated and deservedly so. It's compact, well-constructed, easily fits into one's hand/pocket/purse. The alarm is shrill and constant, until deactivated; making it easily heard for a considerable distance.

I keep it in my pocket or attached to my purse and makes me feel comfortable.
