Glass Spider Tour [DVD] [1988] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Master at work
David Bowie has transcended many characters in his career, most of them very successfully. This show is right up there with the very best of them. He manages to combine the talents of the musicians and dancers with those of the set designers and engineers to create a very watchable show. The added bonus of Peter Frampton on guitar and Bowie himself joining an acrobatic dance routine makes it special. I found that the mood in which you watch this performance dictates how much or how little you will enjoy it. Late at night, undisturbed is fantastic. Watching with others around you who are not as receptive to Bowie's talents will simply ruin the experience. I still marvel at the stage setting, the quality of musicians and dancers, and the pure theatre of Bowie in this role of entertainer and storyteller. A treasure for any Bowie collector.

unfairly mistreated
Glass spider tour has been severely criticized since it started. I think that this collection is a proof of how unfaired were all those comments. Bowie was brave, dared to risk and took his plastic and scenic vein to the top (a huge plastic spider covering the stage, pretentious coreography...). The setlist was risky, quite far of his gretest hits, (that many people waited to hear), but really good. Songs versions were great, in a new and revitalizing fashion, with the impressive Peter Frampton's guitar. The tour was disappointing for many people who doesnt understand Bowie. Bowie is unpredictable, sometimes brilliant, sometimes frustrating, but always creative. We should not go to a Boiwe's show with any perspective. Anyway, it's fair to say that it's not the best Bowie's voice. Overall, a simply stunning and creative show. Give a chance, open your mind.

A Work of Genius
What a splendid tour this was!Bowie at his best. Theatre, dance and rock perfectly combined.I have put away my old VHS copies of this concert and for an incredibly cheap price purchased the DVD concert and 2 CDs which don't contain exactly the same songs. Good idea. It all looks real on a flat wide screen. Get it before it sells out.

Probably for collectors only
The recording on side 1 is fine, although there are skips on Andy Warhol. As other people have noted the same thing this doesn't appear to be a fault on my copy, but an issue with the master. Side 2 is a little muffled, and clearly needs mixing by someone who knows what they're doing. That said, it's a lovely looking album on picture disc, and an interesting record of the gig. There are better recordings of the Outside tour, but if you're a collector you may want to add this.
