Product work as designed. No extra tools needed. You can crimp the metal lead on with plyers and remove double insulation with a razor knife. I ordered these due to buy a cheaper solar kit that did not come with them due to to it having its own controler. But I was adding it into my system that was already working. I had to purchase get a pair of adapters also.Works well happy with my purchase.

Be aware, the 42 pieces means you have 10 female and 10 male. They are a good quality and connect real tight. Easy to install and much cheaper than solar supply houses.

They ARE waterproof, but it's still a good idea to apply some conductive grease to the metal pins (from the outside of the MC4 boy, using a cotton swab) before joining cables with these connectors. Since it's easy to crimp these poorly, resulting in a wasted metal pin, BE SURE to get a proper crimper before you make up any cables. The right crimper (search for "solar cable crimper" to find it) will avoid this problem. Also, it's wise to solder the wire inside the metal pin, filling the wire end of the pin with solder. Doing that prevents any moisture from ever getting inside the inner connection. None of the problems above are the fault of the parts! I learned the hard way, after wasting quite a few pins - which are unavailable separately.

While not the highest-quality connector, for the price point, it is heavy-duty enough, mates well with other brand connectors, is easy to assemble, and, most importantly, works. The only down side is that the locking tabs are more difficult to release than some other designs. This makes disconnecting the connectors take an extra few seconds, but, also means they are less likely to accidently get unplugged.
