Major Payne [Blu-ray]

For me not to many things to laugh at, but for a family movie, I think it had some very important life and behavioral lessons that it taught. The values of family and togetherness, love and loyalty, trust and positive attitude. Most one of the most important messages that it conveyed without ever saying it, was that everyone has the potential to change for the better. To become more than they currently are; with better values, principles and yes, even morals. I highly recommend this movie to children and adults of all ages. Retired Childrens Psychotherapist.

Major Payne delivers on the laughs and a few life lessons. It remains true to the Marine Corps despite many over the top comedic situations we expect from a Damon Wayans film. The story is taken from the Charlton Heston film, The Private War of Major Benson. Some will compare Major Payne to that Heston film but Mr. Wayans never intended to make a remake of that film. This is an out-and-out comedy with no pretense of being the subtle humor of that era. Major Payne stands on its own as an excellent comedy.Of course the movie runs fast and loose with many things Marine. There is no Marine Corps Special Forces. Marines have battalion and force recon as well a marine special operations command. One scene that will strike a chord with all Marines past and current is the dinner scene at about :55 minutes. Every Marine has bolted down their food especially in boot camp. The hip-hop marching scene is definitely NOT Marine. It is a delightful film and greatly enjoyed by this old Marine.

Used to be, there were little movies like this that were just feel good flicks. They weren't trying to tell the story of the universe, no big plot twists where the main character dies and no endings where they couldn't wrap up the freaking thing at the conclusion.Major Payne is a simple, easy to enjoy movie. If you want some deep, mind provoking plot, you're looking at the wrong movie. If you want to chuckle a bit and leave it with a smile on your face, you've found it. I'm a fan of Groundhog Day and I'd compare the experience since both are easy to digest and something I can rewatch and still enjoy. While there's some moral plot underneath the movie, they don't throw it in your face the entire time. I'm a heavy thinker and when a movie throws a lot of things at me, I find myself studying about the plot more than just enjoying the show. I have to think for a living and generally speaking, I'm not looking to keep the brain at 100% power when I watch a movie. Not to belittle Major Payne - just to note that you can easily coast and enjoy without over thinking it.It's rare now to find a gem like this. Sometimes its nice to just watch something without worrying about whether it'll get nominated for whatever silly/useless award or whatever that seems to inspire movie themes these days.

Major Payne remains enjoyable from the first day that it was shown to the public to now what a great movie what great fun Just laughing such a great actor and comedian along with the entire cast this remains most definitely one of my favorites brings back so many memories watching it with my Brothers and Sisters and my Mom who was not a movie or television person brings back great memories of the laughter that went on that day My Dad never had a chance to see it with all of us for he had passed on earlier but Im sure he would have enjoyed it also since he was a Navy guy .... what a great time that was that is a very memorable day for me then and now

I watch this movie every few years as a reminder of complete commitment by the writers/actors in a storyline, no matter how wacky it is. Wayans drill Seargent portrayal is uniquely performed with hints of serious humor- I would have awarded him for his work. The supporting cast all played equally important and entertaining roles. Great fun.

This is a remake of The Private War of Major Benson (1955), which starred Charlton Heston. Wayans plays this role too over-the-top, to the extent that the situations are just not believable. Michael Ironside is in the movie for about two minutes. The movie is constantly going for cheap laughs, but failing. Shame they decided to play it like this, as it could have been a good movie if handled with a little subtlety.

I can't help myself. I know Major Payne is mean to the boys; but he is so hilarious, all I can do is laugh. This story is just great from the way Major Payne strikes terror in the boys to the way the boys try to thwart him. He has come straight from the military--which he greatly loved and devoted his life to--to work at school that has a training program for young boys.Neither he nor his new charges can believe how unlucky they are in this circumstance. Add in a beautiful woman, which he has no clue how to romance, and the mix gives for a very funny circumstance.

I just couldn't finish it. It was too stupid. My husband wanted to but didn't when I said I'd be happy going into another room to read a book while he watched it. It wasn't stupid like "Airplane" or "Office Space." It was stupid like oh, I don't know, Beverly Hillbillies. I'd name something more current but I don't think I've seen anything this stupid since I was five.

I watched this movie years ago.And one day I started giggling over a scene so I had to buy it.It still holds up as a good comedy.

My husband remembered this film from many years ago and thought our kids would enjoy it. He wasn't wrong, it really is a funny film, but definitely for older kids.
