Royal history
The author introduced the reader to life in the 16th century which was short at best. In a sense not much has changed in the politics of the world over the centuries. At least we don't burn at the stake anymore. I wonder how much future generations will cringe when reading about our present day medical practices.Even though the descriptions of 16th century life was educational, as was the medical practices I tired of the repetition. To me the author showed her to be a tragic pathetic woman ill prepared to be head of state. Why? because she was a woman.

great, thorough, story
I read this book, despite it's length, within a few days. It showed details of Mary Tudor that I was truly unaware enough, even despite past research. This story also seemed to be very personalized and showed how Mary dealt with others in her life, especially those closest to her. At times this book does make her appear a bit stoic and with little, if any emotions at all, but maybe that's just how she was. Great, historical tale.

I liked this book
I got interested in the Tudors by watching the showtime series. I was so disappointed that the show did not follow the reins of the children of Henry the 8th so I decided to find out more on my own. I liked this book very much.

Good Read
Not a lot of books about Queen Mary I and am very happy to find this one. Author did a good job with the limited amount factual details about the subject.

A wonderful read
I'm not a history buff, and this is the 3rd in Carolly Erickson's wonderful series of Tudor histories I've read cover to cover. She writes from primary sources, weaving details together to recreate the world of her subjects, their personalities, motivations - even details of their dress, and household budgets. Just fascinating, you'll find yourself remembering these characters after you've finished the book.

The Real Mary
Fascinating to learn enough about her that I can say she wasn't a picked-on-rich-girl. She was very complex and very brutal.

Fantastic
A very sympathetic take on the life of Mary Tudor. Manipulated by the men of her time, she was denied the life she wanted to lead. Cannot imagine the terror she had to endure wondering if/when she would be killed. Going from a prized daughter to an ignored and uncared for bastard.

I can't love this woman
A thoroughly enjoyable read, Mary is often overlooked when looking at the various more colourful Tudors. This book gives a real insight into her life, the up and downs of being the daughter of Henry VIII and the issues of being a female monarch in a male dominated environment. I can't love this woman, she was blinkered and compared to her sister, weak, but I do understand her better. This book is well written and was money well spent.

The softer side to Mary
After reading this I can say that I've changed my opinion on Mary - It makes you feel for her and everything that she went through -
