The media could not be loaded.  Product worked well in an application not specifically advertised. That is, a motor speed controller, for our patented soil sifter.

Nice unit. Easy to use. Just plug in your motorized device, flip the switch and optionally select the speed. Mine wouldn't run my pump slow enough so I took off the back cover and lo and behold there's a calibration slot! See the answered questions for details that I left on how to calibrate it.Also good instructions even including a parts breakdown (though, because of the way it is put together when built does little good as most of the parts cannot be reached without de-soldering other parts to disassemble.Typical sloppy soldering as on many low-cost imports. So if yours quits, you might just re-melt the solder connections. The AC input wires on mine were almost shorted. I just used a screwdriver to separate the connections until there was no chance of them accidently touching.

I have a number of these hooked up to flex shaft grinders. Some applications better solution than the vari-speed peddles they come with. There is an adjustment screw inside the case that adjusts the range of the device so it works well with your tool. This has to be adjusted to get results that you will want. As it was shipped it did not work well, after adjustment it was fine.

Using, the variable switch, my bench grinder is either on or off. It does not vary the speed as I was hoping for.As far as, using a fan with this variable switch, i am sure it works great. However, I tried other tools and it was the same thing, it is either on or off and will not vary the speed.I would not buy this to vary tools.

I really love the switch that let's you choose from on/off/variable. Build quality is good. Depending on the wattage draw, the turn knob is or is not linear. It will be variable but be mostly at the high end. Not a big deal and does work fine. I really like this product and plan to always have one on hand.

I bought this to control the speed of a DW660 router in a hobbyist CNC machine. The DW660 is 30k rpms at full speed, which is too fast for some bits and materials. This controller only takes it down to about 14k rpms. In the end, that will probably suffice for most uses so I'm going to keep it, but I'm disappointed.
